Truly beautiful, congrats, and welcome!
I keep hoping I'll find these kind of deals, but my local thrift shops are in the "Garbage for lots of money" category, and the antique shops aren't much better.

My Goodwill store had a broken Fujica and a broken Canonet in their camera bin for around $35 each.

My other local thrift that regularly has cameras isn't so proud, but their selection is typically pretty bad, though I did get a Promaster K-mount SLR for $14.00 there.

The antique store down the road had a Brownie Hawkeye Flash in "Fair" condition for $35. Oddly, they wanted the exact same amount for a pristine Polaroid Automatic Land Camera 100 with flashgun.

They also had a broken Yashica Lynx 14. If it hadn't been $85, I may have brought it home then sent it to Russ at Camerarefurb.com for a CLA.

Great find on the Spottie! I want one of those non-rubberized S-M-C Takumars!

For all practical purposes, I find a rubberized grip much better than a metal one.

Practical Schmactical. The rubber-grip SMC lenses just don't look as good. Besides, I've never had my hand slip on a focusing ring...don't imagine it makes too much difference.

The way I carry lenses, there's usually more than one per compartment (Dirichlet's box principle). I'd rather have two rubber grip lenses in the same compartment than metal grip. Metal-on-metal contact results in paint loss, bending and denting. I agree that metal focusing rings look better, but my point is that they're far more difficult to keep in good condition.

Crikey! You had me running straight to The Google to figure out that one (Dirichlet's box principle). I feel so ... uneducated, having not known it before. I think somewhere in that principle is the seed of an Excuse To Use On The Wife for buying more lenses: "I'm doing mathematical research..." Anyway, I too am for the lenses with metal grips. Here's the last, desperate argument from our side: The rubber focusing grips can't come unglued on lenses that haven't got them.

The difference then between me and you is, I stop putting lenses in my bag when my bag is full of lenses.

I just couldn't resist.

I recently purchased a Pentax P30t from Keh, it was for a good price (considering it was an SLR) and had a rating of E+.

Lens
No Pentax lens yet, though I am keeping my eye out for a prime lens.
Currently, I have two lens both Vivitars (judging by the serials early eighties build) with macro abilities. They were available and really good price. My previous experience with the brand (70-210 Series 1, which was sadly stolen) was very positive.
  • 28-80mm 1:3.5-4.5 MACRO FOCUSING ZOOM MC RL EDITION
  • 70-210mm 1:4.5 MC MACRO FOCUSING ZOOM

Now it is just a question of finding affordable film, developing, and most important learning the strengths, weaknesses and quirks so as to most use and enjoyment from it.
