Today a MX silver with 50 mm 1.7 are asking around $ 300.
And MX Black not available in the internet sales portals of my country.
That´s a lot!
I gave 800 SEK for mine, that´s about $120..I guess I was lucky. I bought mine from an old camera collector, he had about 6 MX bodies in his hugh collection.
He really had a lot of Pentax-stuff, ME/LX/Spotmatics etc.. A happy guy.

I paid 45GBP for my MX. It needed the seals replaced and I suspect it over-exposes a bit but it's in good condition. In the UK, if you keep an eye open for a bargain you can get an MX for the same price as an ME Super.

My "new" SV. It's in amazing condition for a fifty year old camera and it came with a 55mm f1.8 Super Tak, a fully working meter and an original strap and case in as new condition.
I have film tested it and every-thing is working perfectly and all speeds are accurate. They don't build them like this anymore.

Very cool! With meter and case...all in as new condition! Green "R"? Take care not to mount a ST 50/1.4. It will not clear the mirror, with disastrous results.

Thanks, yes its a Green "R" and I believe that makes it pre 1964 and I'm reliably told that does mean a Super Tak 50/1.4 doesn't clear the mirror, and I do own one.
But at $80 for the camera, lens, meter and case I think thats only a minor problem especialy since it came with a 55/1.8 Super Tak.

Hi everyone. I am new to this game. I bought, well traded some baby gear, for a ZX-7 with 18-55 Tamron lens and Tamron 200mm. I find it is slow in low light. Other than that I am enjoying it and have shot some impressive shots (my opinion).
I had gotten this to test the waters of photography and assumed if I loved it (I do) I would "upgrade" to digital. Turns out, I wonder if I should upgrade to another film camera?

Nice, the black KMs are harder to find.

Hi.

I've got 4 rolls of B/W Kodak and 6 rolls of Fujicolor waiting for me in the fridge back home !

My SP2 is loaded with some Chinese B/W, my MX has a roll of B/W Kodak in it, so I think I'll put some Fujicolor in the KM. I'll be back here with some pictures from it later.

I used a ZX-5 for awhile, with a Tammy 28-200 zoom. (Your "200mm" is actually a something-to-200 zoom, isn't it? From memory, I don't know a fixed focal length KAF 200mm Tamron.) So your upgrade questions really should be two: body and lenses. Lens sloth is one of the reasons that people upgrade from zooms to prime lenses. Consumer zooms have that downside where they are rarely faster than f/3.5, and also annoying to me is that they change aperture without telling you. (Such as an f/3.5 - 5.6 zoom, if you're at f/3.5, and you zoom to the length where f/5.6 is the max, it must change from 3.5 to 5.6.) If I'm concentrating on composition, focusing, or shutter speed at the moment, to me it's a nuisance that the lens now un-sets a setting I had already set. Solution: a nice, fast manual-aperture, manual focus prime. You can get 50mm or 55mm f/1.8 primes for dimes, and f/1.8 is two stops faster than the fast end of many consumer zooms. Next good spend is a 35/2.0 (or similar speed). In other words, start covering the focal length range with reasonably fast lenses (100/2.8 etc.) before going back to spend more on crazy speed at the same length (50/1.2, etc.).

As to bodies, upgrading there won't help the slowness. That said, you'll find that the solid metal feel of any vintage Pentax (K or M models from the 1970s, or obviously Spotmatic models and older) quite more satisfying than the plastic fantastics, and many are less battery dependent. (Defenders of the ZX line reading this: No need to flame! I loved mine at the time and still think it's great among plastic fantastics for its faux-analog controls, good feature set, and modest size.)

What he said...

I own a KX, but recommend the KM to anybody wanting a sturdy mechanical 35mm SLR with a decent feature set. Much, much better than a K1000! And in black...lucky you!
