Wow, the above reminds me of what I just bought in near mint condition.

Have you heard that Johnny Cash song, "One piece at a time"? Well the next piece just came in for the LX and no hotshoe finder the FA-2. Has that MX look - which is a great thing.

A recent addition to my 6x7 collection. (The lens is an older purchase)

My latest camera is a home built body for the Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR/6X7 1:2.8/90
The camera is all metal with a cast aluminum body and fittings machined from 6031 Alloy billet and plate, and 360 brass.
If anybody is interested in the construction i will put some photos on the DIY section.

This photo was taken with the Speed Graphic using the SUPER-TAKUMAR/6X7 1:3.5/55 at minimum focus distance. - a bit over exposed i think.
In the backgound is the MX with the SMC Pentax -M 1:2.8~4 40~80mm used as a rangefinder and light meter, and to take shots along with the P6X7.

Where did you get the settings for focal distance? Was this to replace a damaged body?

Hi, Arnold,
The register of the Pentax 6X7 is 84.95 mm ( I assume at 20 Celsius) .

The Tak 6X7 cameras are still costly and beyond my budget. And, as I read, sometimes unreliable
However, the older Tak 6x7 lenses are possibly the best/lowest cost medium format lenses available.
So I had purchased a set of Tak 6X7 lenses and adapted them to my Speed Graphic ( see my thread on this)
Well ..... I learned that to walk around with a Speed loaded with a RF Back and a Tak.... and then focus and fire it... that is not Chimping... you need to be a full grown and very fit Gorilla.

So I built the camera, it merges the Tak to the Graflex RF Back but is much lighter and simpler, and I custom built the viewfinder for my aging diopter.

Peter, both the Speed Graphic adaptation and the new box camera are unbelievably great. (I had missed that Speed Graphic thread when it was new so just now located and read it.) I am always in awe of those like yourself who can just casually say things like "I machined a puck of black acetyl, 10 mm long and with a 1.2 mm drill with a counter-drill 5.2 mm for the photo-diode." (Yes I realize that was part of your shutter test kit, not the camera itself!) For those of us with neither the skill nor the machinery, these DIY cameras are nearly science-fiction. Anyway, I think your Speed Graphic is ingenious use of 6x7 lenses. It's nice to see someone test that great old glass and find that it can work at an even larger format than it was sold for. I'm always a bit dismayed when people take such a classic lens, which throws an image circle the size of a saucer, and stack it on two adapters (67 -> K, K -> MFT or similar) to make pictures on a sensor the size of a pinkie fingernail.

Dave,
Thanks for the comments.
I have put a thread on the DIY section with a description of how the body was made and some more photos of it.

My newly film tested Black K2 in full working order with accurate shutter speeds and meter. It was a "steal" at $72 complete with the 1:1.8/55mm.
Even though its nice in black and has aperture priority I think I still prefer my "Panda" KX for its better layout and simplicity.

Good buy, the lens alone is worth that.

Too true, I have that lens but won't part with it despite having other various newer fifties. At about f4 it is the sharpest lens I have ever seen on my K-5.
