By my count that's KX #4 on this thread, which is a bit of a surprise as it isn't in general one of the plentiful/popular Pentax cameras, and was made for a pretty short time.

I see the attraction however, to a Pentaxian

the Pentax LX and ME are my two favourites. I commonly use the FA31 f/1.8 limited the Pentax K 50mm f/1.2 and the FA77 f/1.8 limited - the 50 f/1.2 is my favourite lens on either camera.

the FA77mm f/1.8 is very compact on the Pentax ME.

Yeah, I know the the quality of photos doesn't matter too much about the lens, but the photo quality does quite abit.

The primes I have do their job great, just there are a few gaps that I wish to fill in. Particually a good portrait lens.

One lens at a time, Cosmo

Start with the M-100/2.8 - save $10 a week for 10 weeks or $5 a week for 20 weeks - and work your way up to the 85's (they're crazy expensive anyway).

I am 53. I took my first photograph (with a borrowed Spotmatic) in 1971 at age 16. I got the KX and one lens in 1977 and the MESuper and one lens in 1984. It took me over 30 years to get to this collection, and I'm actually selling some lenses now.

Meanwhile, ACDSee tells me I have taken 3759 pictures since May 1, 2008.

I think the KX makes a pretty good compromise for a manual body. They don't show up as often but they seem to sell for less than an MX in similar condition despite having most of the same features. An added bonus for me was that the ever ready case from my K1000 fits nicely and I like the larger body size.

An LX would have been nice too, but they usually go for more than I'm willing to spend right now. For shooting in sunlight I prefer a needle style light meter to LEDs and I don't really have any desire for accessories like a motor drive (though interchangeable viewfinders would be interesting to try out, if expensive).

About the only thing that I would have liked on the KX is a user changeable focusing screen and I probably only would have used that feature once to put in a split prism screen.

How do you like the nokton 58mm on film? How does it compare to the other fifties?
Just curious.

Brand New Old Toy.....uh..tool

Today my Pentax KX met it's intended mate: A Series 1 3rd Variation Vivitar 70-210mm f/2.8 Zoom! It was love at first K-Mount...and it has the "A" setting so I can use it on my AE bodies as well!

I apologize for the shallow DOF. natural light was fading fast, and I was hell bent on not setting up to use a strobe. although this by no means represents all of my film gear. I left out my screw mount bodies, most of my lenses as well as my 6x7 setup. what I chose to introduce, is what I currently use on an almost daily basis. compact, easy to use and easy to carry.

Asahi Pentax MX w/ mount adapter K & winder MX
SMC Takumar 55mm 1.8 w/ hood
S-M-C Macro-Takumar 100mm 4 w/ hood
misc filters carried inside of hood case
Sekonic Studio Deluxe L-398M lightmeter
my favourite camera strap
Ilford HP5 Plus film

Works nice on film. Colors a tad soft, but that might, er, mostly the type of film I use. Cheap, cheap expired film.

Tell me what film you want me to use, and I'll shoot it on my LX. Actually, do you want this lens? PM me. I'll let it go for a steal.

A Rare Bird: The Pentax MEF

This MEF is near-perfect except I don't have the actual auto-focusing zoom lens that goes with it.

I shot this with my K20D, fitted with the Pentax A-50mm f/1.4 lens. Honestly, I am astonished at how good these old 50mm M and A lenses are! The bokeh knocks me over, and the rendering is just....maybe you have a word for it, I don't.

Below is the MEF shot with the A 50mm f/1.4. Next is the identical shot with the brand new DA* 55mm f/1.4. Notice the PURPLE FRINGING. Not present on the older lens! Last is a view of the top of the MEF which shows on the right the usual MESuper exposure controls, but on the left, settings for the ill-fated first-try at auto-focus. This one also with the A-50mm f/1.4 lens.
