If you mean polycarbonate sheathing, I guess it cheap is a matter of taste. I own a XR-2s that I consider to be more robust than my KX. It works perfectly despite never having been CLA'ed. My XR7 is every bit the equal, build-wise, to my Super Program. A Spotmatic is a much nicer camera than my Singlex TLS, but the TLS keeps on clicking. Again, it has never been CLA'ed and still works quite nicely.

All that being said, some of the low-end Ricoh models from the mid-late 1980s are pretty much junk.

Ricoh xr-p

Not exactly a Pentax film body but a K-mount film camera with Ricoh xr-p. Like Steve, I very much like my copy of Ricoh film camera.

Ricoh xr-p top view with Cosina 55mm f/1.2 k-mount

added hand-grip for better ergonomics

Compared to the Pentax equivalent like the MX, Super Program and ME-Super, it may not feel as solid due to its polycarbonate bodies, but I actually prefer it for its lighter weight, its viewfinder and other useful features not found in the Pentax.

I especially like its viewfinder with diagonal split screen. The electronics indicators in its viewfinder really gives me everything I need in the field.

And it is especially nice to be able to light up the viewfinder brightly when I find the need to do so. The xr-p uses 2x the batteries of the Pentax but once I use the light indicator in indoor setting and that of harsh lighting shooting, the added battery is justified.

I have cut down all of my 35 film bodies with mx, super-program, mv, me super but I keep the xr-p as my only 35 film body behind to enjoy films whenever I find the opportunity.

[Warnings:] To those who suffer from CBA, the Ricoh is not without its own problems. What I pictured above is my 3rd copy of xr-p and the two prior copies had exactly the same issues on broken shutter.

Thanks,
Hin

Yes. Some bodies will not meter light correctly if they do not support stop down metering. You can always shoot in manual and use a separate light meter if necessary.

???? That is a new one on me. Which bodies do not support Av or metered manual mode?

It looks like I was mis-recalling a manual. Some of the lower end MZ-XX film bodies (MZ-30, MZ-60) won't work at all with lenses that lack A settings.

That's a sweet kit fearview. The black 43 ltd looks really good on the LX.

Here's my newest addition to my ever growing Pentax family.

1961 Honeywell Heiland Pentax H1, complete with original Auto Takumar 55/2.2 w/ original 46mm Heiland metal lens cap.

"new" pentax

I found this waiting in the thrift shop last Monday. It's in very good shape, 100% functional.
I started out collecting 35mm Minoltas but the Pentax gear is catching up lately.:ugh:

Nice find, bobh. There are not a lot of ME Super SE's around -- or at least I've never had one go through my hands, and I've bought/sold/fixed/broken quite a few film Pentaxi over the years. Great to come across one in that condition.

There is just something about those classic Asahi cameras...especially when they are complete with all the accessories and looking like you just picked one up new from the display rack. Great shots btw...
