Love those SF1's. Their built like a brick and have a picture window view finder.
I need the viewfinder! I actually really like this camera and I finally have an F35~70.

The ME Super was released in 1980 but I was wondering if you have a flux capacitor DeLorean for that time travel bit . . .
I'm pretty sure they were still available in 1984 though.

I agree that the ME Super must have been available in 1984 because two sources that seem reliable - ME & MF Bayonet, state that the ME Super was released in 1980 and discontinued 1986/1987.

It's just that he stated he bought his in 1984 when it was first released in 1989. However, after further reexamination, he must be referring to buying the ME Super in 1984 and referenced a previous thread referring to the SF1 being released in 1989. Now it makes more sense then a time travelling DeLorean!

1980 MESuper
1983 Super/PROGRAM
1989 SF1

That's a lot of change in even 9 years!

How about manual focus to the first auto focus in 1 year - ME Super (1980) to ME F (1981).
The ME-F was the first AF SLR and used motor in lens in 1981.
Nikon released the F3AF in 1983.
Canon T-80 used an autofocus FD mount lens in 1985.
The Minolta 7000 had focusing motor in body that was introduced in 1985.

Early SV

Here's the latest Pentax I've been trying out - a very early SV made before they were exported. It came with an S3 manual and supplemental that explained an English manual wasn't ready yet, as it wasn't for the export market. The baseplate is engraved "NO TAX" - likely indicating it was made for either a duty-free shop or PX sales. The shutter was jammed with a film fragment, lens diaphragm sticky and focus hard, speeds off, etc. Now it is nice.

Here are a few shots from my first test roll of film. These are taken of its "brother" - a slighly newer SV, but still marked with the NO TAX engraving. It has a bad shutter curtain (stiff - likely from being left on display without a lens in the sunlight), and I'll likely use it for parts. It made a good model for trying the 55 f1.8 with the auto extension tubes. Of course, macro work is where a TTL Spotmatic is nicer, as these required 2 stops additional exposure compared to the external meter.

Very NICE - great cameras those SV's.

I just sent a newer model SV to Eric for a CLA. You might consider sending the second camera to him for an evaluation - it is free and there's no obligation. If you don't know about Eric yet, PM me - we all use him to bring our film cameras back to life: Pentax Camera Service

I've used Eric for a few years, starting with my LX. He has an H1 of mine now. I do most lenses and simpler CLAs myself, but use Eric when something is more involved than I want to mess with, or needs tools I don't have (yet).

Heh. I go away for a year and I lose track of everyone. I also have an H1a in the box for Eric. It was a $5 find. If you want it for the parts and fix the other SV its yours - I'll email Eric to hold off.

Actually, I only found this site in the last year. I appreciate it, but it's better to resurrect the H1a. I tend to accumulate those $5 specials myself, and sometimes one turns out sweetly. I started on an H1a I bought new in 1965. I had Eric restore one for me a couple years ago, and that reignited my love for these meterless cameras.

Not even $80, either. It is astounding that I bought my MESuper in 1984 and this was first released in 1989. That's a LOT of change in just 5 years.

Considering the ME Super was on the market for a lot of years (as described in some confusion,) I don't know if it's 'a lot of change,' compared to now. I think I first handled one of those when I was a lilil photo creature, barely knee-high to a Mamiya, and by 1989 I was looking much like KD Lang with Siouxsie hair. A lot can happen in nine years.

Just taken delivery of an auto-110... It really is tiny!

Will get a photo up of it next to my ME and MZ-7 later in the day....

My camera of choice: Pentax K1000

I'm new to film and the K1000 seemed like the perfect place to start.

My Lens: Pentax A 50 f/1.7

I got it with my K-7 on ebay. At first I shrugged it off as some old lens but, over time I learned to love it.

Film: TRI-X 400

I love black & white, 400 ISO is great for my shooting in all sorts of lighting and It's pretty hard to screw up developing for a beginner like me.
