After reading the MX review in the May 1979 Popular Photography magazine, I had to get the matching 40mm f2.8 pancake lens that was also reviewed very favorably.

New member of the family: ME

Hi.

I stumbled on a ME yesterday, it needed a new home, so I bought it!

From left:
SPII and Super Takumar 50/1.4
KM and Chinon 135/2.8
MX and M40/2.8
ME and M50/1.4

(oops, I almost forget, I have a black MX coming in the mail also!)

The Insidious Disease...

Well, it happened again...

This time I was browsing the 'bay for a cheap Super-Takumar 55mm f2 to pair with one of my un-lensed Spotmatic bodies, with the intention of reselling the kit (I figured it would sell better with a lens).

I came across this H1a and S-T 55mm f2 with strap and case - and WON it for $10.50 (well, $20.50 with shipping - but still a good deal)! I just bought an H1a, and love it - but really??? Another?

Now I still have a body without a lens, no matter how I look at it.

The insidious disease infects me... What am I going to do? Will it ever stop?

I also have a black MX with M 40mm f2.8, and it's a sweet little operator!

Yeah the small lenses with the small bodies is really very cool.

Maybe the Fish-Eye-Takumar 18mm F11 would be more of a match to the 40mm f2.8 in size but the 17mm F4 is a also very good and compact . . .

A versatile -M kit for travel.
All period correct and all fits in the 2004 holster bag.
I could have bought it all new in 1980 but I got an ME Super + Kit and a ski-boat instead!
The catalog is from 1980.

This is what I was working with today, using FP4. The K 85-210/4.5 is an interesting oddity. Excellent image quality, especially for its period, but awkward due to large size and limited close focusing. It only focuses to 12 feet, except with its supplied diopter. I use it once in a while for fun. I find the K2 quite pleasant to use- a very solid basic camera.

That looks cool but it didn't even dawn on me to put a lens shade on the pancake lens!
Probably because I am thinking minimum packaging but also that Pop Photo review rated it as having the all time low for flare of any lens tested to date - May 1975!

That is a steal! Well done. I can't get enough of these early machines. Their quality is superb.

The rubber hood provides a little protection against knocks and increases contrast (hopefully).

Updated photo to go with an updated kit. Sold the FA 45, and picked up an A 35 and FA 45-85. Kit now complete, just need to get out and use it more.
