I got this K1000 as a gift in Kansas, USA and brought it back to Germany with me.
It makes awesome pictures and a few weeks ago i bought three lenses for it.

Here's the stuff i got:

1. Pentax K1000 with (probably from the early 80's)

2. SMC Pentax-M 1:2 50mm (this one came with it when i got it)

3. SMC Pentax-M 1:1.7 50mm

4. Sigma 1: 3.5 70 ~ 150mm

5. Sigma 1:3.5 200mm

6. Optatron 260 Flash (I got this from my Grandpa, but it needs to be repaired)

I recently discovered the similar meetup group in my city, and it is of similar size, somewhere north of 2000 members. Within it, there is a small group of a couple of dozen hard-core film users. If we have that many here, surely you have more in DC. Someone in that film subculture of our group had the brilliant idea of a film camera swap meetup event -- everyone borrows someone else's camera and we all go out for a photo walk. I was angling for a Pentax 6x7, except the chap who said he would bring his had to cancel at the last moment. Instead I took a walk with another member's Mamiya 6 while he went out with my Bronica S2. (So I came out $1000 ahead in that cross-borrowing ). If you're in the DC group, or join it, you could suggest similar there. A 6x7 or something even more exciting is bound to surface. A warning though: actually fondling a camera you've never seen in the flesh before can have extreme GAS-exacerbating effects.

Sort of, except that if I gave any indication ("angling for a Pentax 6x7") that sounded like there was advance signup for what each person would borrow (analogous to signing up for when you'll get the Sightseeing Screwmount), well, there wasn't. Cameras were just traded whimsically around the table in a pub, with beer, and I think that way was more fun. I could've had a Leica M7, or a Bronica GS, or a pristine Exakta. Or if I had happened to own a Nikon SLR/DSLR and had brought it (but, neither is the case), I could've borrowed an Olympic Sonnar that one guy brought with a Pentacon Six --> Nikon adapter on it. I had certainly never seen one of those in the flesh. It is ENORMOUS.

It goes without saying that the only real limitation on this activity is commonsense security. A group might not want to do it including someone who just joined, is known to no-one, brings a beater 1980 Vivitar P&S as his thing to lend, and wants to borrow the M7...oh, and wants to shoot by himself instead of photo-walk with the group. Hmmm....

The randomness is charming itself. I guess you have to go often to get your chance with your desired camera (unintended beneficial consequence?).

I would gladly shoot all day paired with my swap partner for security.

That is very cool! I would love to shoot a short roll with an Exakta. I have lent/traded/borrowed gear in the past with members of this forum and it is a valuable experience. A hearty thank you to those of you who have indulged me

Yep the 6x7 is a "mans" camera!
I see he’s hand holding the Takumar 6x7 400/4 to boot, while smoking a "Clint" type cigarette. It doesn’t get any more macho than that.

As long as we are on the 6x7 theme, I have a couple priceless catalog images to add.

First, the wacky frame size comparison chart. You have to look very closely to see the show being put on by the actors!


And then of course the classic back cover from the Japanese 6x7 manual. I recall purchasing a beat up 6x7 body mostly just for the manual that came with it... Now I have two copies. It's a delightfully (erhmm...) informative manual!

There is something odd about the 6x7 vs 6x6 size comparison. The extra width of the 6x7 should should be roughly 1 centimeter in real life. But I don't think we need to use the actual size to verify.

Using the distance from the left edge of the 6x7 to the left edge of the 6x6 and then seeing how many times that distance fits across the long edge of the 6x7 should roughly add up to 7. If falls way short. Perhaps I'm over thinking it.

It might depend on which 6x6 camera? I think most are 55mm X 55mm and the 67 frame size is 55x70. So the 6x7 frame is 1.5cm longer.
