Nice cameras, and good article on Steve Huff.
I just recently added a ZX-5n (MZ-5n) to my collection and I've been really impressed with it.

Agreed, nice article. This may inspire me to get my ZX-5 off the shelf. It was my workhorse camera from new (1997) until about 2000; then I shot almost nothing for a few years; then I found digital (P&S initially). When I went back to film in 2007, I went to rangefinders, medium format, and 1960s-1970s SLRs, and have never shot another role in the ZX-5. Time to change that and adapt some Takumars onto it.

I agree Panorama mode is silly. This was a fad in the 1990s and maybe presaged the multiple frame sizes of APS film. I tried it on my ZX-5, but since it masks one 36x24 frame to about 36x10, which is then enlarged about 10x to make a print, it results in grainy prints reminiscent of 110 film pictures. I suspect if you brought a roll of film with these masked panos to a photofinisher today, they might not know what to do with it, and you'd get normal 15x10 cm prints with the top and bottom showing black masking. If I ever get the urge to try pano again (doubtful), I'll get a 35mm adapter for a MF camera to make proper 60x24 frames.

XD11 focusing screens are also interchangeable.

I did make the distinction that they were not user changeable - service center, but I understand it didn't take a complete breakdown to do it. Of course the screen is really bright and contrast so it may not need to be changed. The XD-11 was a homerun for Minolta.

I'd like to try an MZ-3 but they're very rare. Is the build quality any better than the 5N?

That's disappointing, I had hoped it would be better.

Then you should look at MZ-S - build quality is definitely better. But its already starting to be too complicated, "zen" is starting to fade away.
Anyway - MZ-5N, MZ-3 has decent build quality, its solid its not to heavy, at least for me.

Just got my XD11 back from CLA. It and my XE-7 are both "like new", as is one of my two Pentax MX bodies. This stuff today costs less than a few fancy lunches, but was like three years of teenager allowance back in the day.

I think we need to see these "like new" Minoltas in the "Gear P0rn - post it if you got it" thread . . .

Here is a Pentax Super A that i used as a prop for some product photography on my recent Photography course.
The camera is not mine and actually belongs to the Art department at Hull College. The SMC-M 50 / 1.4 is from my own collection.

This is my spare 50mm that usually sits in my bag along with a DA50. Both great lenses.

Here's my Pentax SPOTMATIC 1000.
Unfortunately I haven't used as the battery cover is in a bad way and I am unable to remove it. I really should sort it out and shoot with this old bird.

Cross post from Gear Porn. Took a chance on this from a dreadful unfocused picture, but it is in splendid condition with a rather more rare lens.
