I took one shot with the combo and I didn't have any trouble.

A master gunsmith in Coffs Harbour? not the chap at Timbertown?

Either way. yes that would be good to make it all shiny again. Don't forget to take pictures with it once and a while tho

Oops, didn't realise I was still in Coffs, no I live in Tamworth now and the gentleman is a pommy import. I have been out putting a roll of Superia through it this weekend - mostly to see if it has any light leaks at all.

With all those lenses the K1000 must be getting a work out. Good to see these solid film cameras in action.

I try. The K100D definitely sees more use. Film development is so expensive locally that even though I prefer to shoot film I could never afford to get all my photos developed so I end up shooting a lot of digital instead.

"THIS IS MY K1000 THERE ARE MANY LIKE IT BUT THIS ONE IS MINE. MY K1000 IS MY BEST FRIEND. IT IS MY LIFE. I MUST MASTER IT AS I MASTER MY LIFE. WITHOUT ME IT IS USELESS, WITHOUT MY CAMERA I AM USELESS.

I WILL AIM MY K1000 TRUE, I MUST SHOOT STRAIGHTER THAN THE OTHER PHOTOGRAPHER WHO IS TRYING TO TAKE PICS BETTER THAN MINE, I MUST OVERSHOOT HIM BEFORE HE OVERSHOOTS ME….I WILL. MY CAMERA AND MYSELF KNOW WHAT COUNTS IN FILM PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT THE SHOTS WE FIRE, THE NOISE OF OUR SHUTTER, NOR THE PAPER WE PRINT. WE KNOW THAT IT IS HITS THAT COUNT. WE WILL HIT…

MY CAMERA IS HUMAN, EVEN AS I, BECAUSE IT IS MY THIRD EYE. THUS I WILL LEARN IT AS A BROTHER, LEARN ITS WEAKNESSES, ITS STRENGTHS, ITS LENSES, ITS ACCESSORIES, ITS VIEWFINDERS AND ITS LENSES. I WILL EVER GUARD IT AGAINST THE RAVEGES OF WEATHER AND DAMAGE. I WILL KEEP MY CAMERA CLEAN AND READY, EVEN AS I AM CLEAN AND READY. WE WILL BECOME PART OF EACH OTHER. WE WILL…

BEFORE GOD I SWEAR THIS CREED, MY CAMERA AND MYSELF ARE THE DEFENDERS OF FILM PHOTOGRAPHY, WE ARE THE MASTERS OF OUR PICTURES, WE ARE THE SAVIORS OF THIS ART. SO BE IT, UNTILL THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO PORTRAY BUT PEACE."

^^^Love that pic, Cuthbert. You picked a great weapon! I'm working my way back to a K-1000 from a K-50. Shooting this one first to sort of wean myself off of the bells and whistles. It could take a while but I'll get there.

Actually thaut K1000 is indeed difficult to find because it's one of the first batch, 75xxxxx serial number, asahi Japan and came with its original K55mm f2.0 lens. Bought it in the U.S. for $60 plus shipping, in relatively rough shape, a lot of dust in the lens, would be needing new seals but still takes a lot of great pics.

In these months I slowly collected all the original Pentax Ks (K1000, KM, KX,K2 and K2DMD) with two 55mm f1.8, a 50 mm f1.4, a 35mm f2.8, a 28 f2.8 and a 105 mm f2.8, plus I've an heavily battered MX (I don't like it much despite of its reputation here) and a Spotmatic F that looks brand new...unfortunately most of this gear is in Italy at the moment so I mostly use the K1000, but my favourites are the K2, K2DMD and the Spottie.

Having said that, I've to confess that I mostly use my Canon F-1N and the Nikon FM (until for some unknown reasons it started to badly underexpose), but I prefer to hang around with you Pentaxians because this place is friendly, warm and not impersonal like other boards on the net.

I'd love to take a good pic of the "K family" all together ASAP, all together they are impressive.

I've had and sold each of those over the last 15 years, but never together. I'd love to see your family photo!

Ok the next time I'm going home I'll bring the K1000 with me and I'll try to take the picture of the "family" as I composed it in my mind...I'll be needing a very deep DOF I assume to do that.

That'll be cool!

IIRC 105mm, 10ft @ f/5.6 = 1ft 35mm film (13ft. APSc) - crop to frame.

One of my "newest" Pentaxes ;)

This Electro Spotmatic found me a few weeks ago.

"Newest" purchase, and I also say "newest" because this camera kit appears to be "new in box" condition. I doubt it has ever been loaded with film. I have a few other Pentaxs that are 'younger' than this one. I have been on the lookout for a nice 'working' Electro Spotmatic, because I really like shooting with my ES and ES-II, but I had no idea I would find one this nice.

Every one of this camera's functions seem to be working properly. The electronics in this camera are working fine, a common problem with 1st generation Electro Spotmatics. The electronic shutter speeds change with varing light and aperture settings. The manual shutter speeds sound right, ...

I will preserve it in this condition, store it carefully, and not take it out and make it a "used" camera.

Well I think you should fix that problem quickly!

A lovely find. Strange how everyone hopes to find a "new" old camera, yet feel it a sin to keep it new. I think that the returns from preserving a piece of history in perfect condition, far outway the benefits of use, benefits that are easily obtained from less precious examples. I agree with your view here. This is not to say I don't use my precious near new cameras, because I do. I just don't treat them as expendable. However, a NEW camera is another matter, as it's use seriously compromises it's status.
