So, I'm looking for a replacement. Any suggestions keeping in mind the 2.8 aperature on the Vivitar was great & the 28-90 range of the zoom was perfect for 95% of my shots.
Any opinions on the Vivitar Series I 28-105 zoom? It looks much different than the 28-90 I used.
My guess is that your Vivitar S1 28-90mm f/2.8-3.8 was made by Kiron (S/N 22....). I had a Vivitar 28-85mm, made by Kiron, that felt and looked suspiciously the same as the Vivitar S1 28-90mm.
However, there are different versions of the Vivitar S1 28-105mm. I have the one made by by Tokina (S/N 37..., f/2.8-3.8, 67mm filter thread diameter). Its IQ is just as good as the 28-85mm and it seems to be easier to focus with my K10D so I sold the 28-85mm. The version with 72mm filter thread diameter is made by Cosina. "They" say it's not as good as the Tokina version but I don't have direct experience with it.
