Ah, I was about to point out the downside of Fuji myself - I've just got back two rolls of Superia 400 X-tra (cheapest 400 film at the time at B&H) and am underwhelmed. The contrast is way too high and I get an overload of red/magenta on the scans. A real pita to correct. Like Javier says, in cheap film Ultra Max really does the job of late, there's really not much need to go pay for 'pro' film. Fuji 400H is better than Superia however, and sometimes can be had cheaper.
I really like the 160 speed films, from both Kodak and Fuji. 160NC may be my favorite.
The thing here, with color negatives in particular, is the scan. There's a lot of variability in scanning, day to day in the same lab, or across labs, or even at home. Color balance and exposure at scan time can swamp any film difference.
