stopping down while bouncing flash

I have a k100d and have been working with bouncing the flash to get different lighting effect. I like the results that i have gotten from it but want to use it for film. My prob is that when using the dig. i am able to bracket alot more..meaning I dont have a limited number of exposures to work with. My qusestion is...Is there a general rule for stopping down when using your flash when bouncing. For reference i will be using a vivitar 3700 with the flash guide and settings on the back.

That is generally an experience issue and since you have the D-SLR you may learn faster.
Try with your D-Slr in maual mode and your vivitar flash. Set the shutter at the same speed you would on your film-camera (1/60) and shoot pictures with direct flash, bouncing flash, diffused flash (you can use a piece of white paper around the hed), etc.
Then see how many stops you need to open to compensate.

I normally overexpose by 1 stop when using the flash bouncing from a card or when using a paper-diffuser. When you bounce it on the ceiling is a compeltely different thing, since height, color, etc change everything.
Over exposure is no problem with negative-film

In my limited experience, when bouncing against a white card (e.g. Lumiquest), you lose about 1.5 tops.

You also lose about 1.5 stops when bouncing against a ceiling or a wall. But then the effective distance is from the flash to the bouncing surface to the object being photograph. In other words, you lose a lot of light.

When shooting film with bounced flash, I use ISO 400 film, flash on auto, and as large aperture as possible.
