m42 Lenses on film camera

I'm getting a super program tomorrow with a pentax-a 1.4. . i actually bought the camera for a friend and the lens for myself but might end up keeping the camera too because it looks nice, and i want to see my FA limiteds at their intended focal length. I can see myself not shooting with it and collecting dust tho. anywho.....

How do m42 lenses work with pentax k-mount film cameras? Would i be able to see aperture? Will the camera meter properly? Or do I have to stop down like on dslr?

M42 lenses work as manual aperture lenses on a K-mount body. All metering will be in stop-down mode. You will not be able to see the aperture setting in the viewfinder. The Super Program manual (Link) has a section on page 57 regarding supported modes.

The super pgm should work like the pgm plus... I just put the adapter in, then the lens on the adpter, in M mode. Leave the camera on program/auto (where it defaults to Av in this case). Focus reasonably wide open, turn the aperture to where I want it - looking at the shutter speed reading - and shoot. The metering is better than on the digital bodies.
