Summer of (Kodachrome) 64

Now is the time to use Kodachrome 64 exclusively for all our color photography.
Is anyone with me?

I've been scanning a friends K64 slides from the 60's and 70's today. I'm beginning to think I should load a roll in a spare body and record something with it. The colors are fantastic, even after 40 years. It's amazing. I just ordered my film for the year, so I got to think about another order. We have a little while to shoot with it and still get processed by the end of 2010.

Found the last roll I ever bought, stamped 2004 on the box, unexposed. I'm going to shoot that roll, and a couple more if I can get them.

I have a beautiful, new to me K1000 and my set of M series primes. The kit I always wanted when I was a kid. Should be an interesting summer switching, for awhile, back from digital.

Kodak claims there is an ample supply forthcoming.

I am definitely going to get some. The problem with stock piling it is processing it beyond 2010.

Edit: The irony is that in the past I used Ektachrome a lot due to quick turn around time on processing for job related things. Know that I am using digital in that void and use film for things I have more time on, Kodachrome is on the

Very tempting. I'm a little bored, and haven't done much color film in a long time, still longer since I was too interested in the Kodachrome look. Actually, I'm in a bit of a funk.

I've got a friend that's got some on backorder: I might buy a roll off him when it comes.

Too bad there's no 120.

Bought a roll today, I'm gonna probably buy loads more, and shoot it all when i go out to China.

While many of us have some pleasant memories of Kodachrome, I don't have any experience with the current processing. I used various Kodak (and later Kodak-contracted) labs in the past, and the color was just too variable. In most cases this was with pro emulsions from the same batches, and I think that makes sense given the design of the film and the complexity of the processing. It's not necessarily something you can't overcome with scanning and postprocessing, but if you have to do that much work it mitigates much of the advantage of using the film in the first place. And most people seem to feel that Kodachrome isn't their first choice for scanning, partly due to some ICE issues (at least until the latest generation.) The same color cast issues didn't seem to occur, at least to the same degree, with Kodachrome or K II, but seemed to become an issue with the K25/64 (KM/KR) generation. So before I'd go out and buy a lot of Kodachrome, I'd probably want to learn about some experiences from people using the current film along with what seems to be the only remaining lab.

I've checked any local stores for inventory and none. So I'll try to find some and join in. I haven't shot it in a few years and we'll see if digital has made me rusty (or lazy). I'll have to get the K1000 and Super Program checked and cleaned. Don't want to waste a frame with a bad meter!!
