New Toys "Programme A" & "A 50 1.7"

My new toys have arrived this week, both in very good nick, the Programme A is all black with hardly a mark - the new lens also looks pretty good on the K10.

Very nice. I have always preferred the all-black look of the program a bodies versus the program plus ones. Nice catch.

I really love the design of these program bodies, they have a butch purposefulness to them... Nice camera.

Hi Kev

Nice Camera. I have just bought a programme A at a boot fair, but not on working order. It seems that the wider and shutter are stuck, or hopefully may not be working for some other reason. Do you know if there is any device that prevents the winder and shutter operating without film, and can you tell me whether it needs one or two batteries and which type?

Grateful for any help you might give

John

You can put a pair of LR44 or A76 button batteries.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a go. Any ideas on the jamming?

You need to make sure of batteries before concluding the camera is jammed. The shutter won't release without batteries, so if the winder is advanced and there are no batteries, it will seem jammed.

Sluggo, thanks for the tidbit on the batteries. I've not experienced that yet, but I probably will at some point in the future (2XSuperProgram bodies) and it'll save an expensive diagnostic for what is a simple fix.

@Kevin - greetings from another Kevin. Don't have a ProgramPlus but I do have a SuperProgram and the M50 f1.7. I'm in love with the M version of the lens and I'll bet the "A" is optically similar. If it is, I'd imagine you'll really like that lens.

Enjoy the new gear and post your photos from the camera when you have some.

Best,
Kevin (KJon)

P. S. Jealous that your ProgramPlus is all black.

Try it without the winder, first, too. Those can be a bit fussy, it seems.

Nice work Kev. I am a happy Super Program owner, but I imagine the cameras are fundamentally quite similar. You wont have any sharpness issues with that lens either Black looks nice...

BTW, those 2 fittings underneath the "Program A" marking are for the factory grip. I recommend that you get the grip - at one stage I needed one and the cost was about $10AUD on ebay.

I have a Super Program and and the same A 50mm 1.7, great combo. Just picked up a K7 and the A 50mm 1.7 works wonderfully on it as well.

I got the Super Program, A 50mm 1.7, and a 70-200 Ricoh mount last year at a Goodwill thrift store for $15, there was a roll of Kodak B&W film torn in the body; figured for $15 it was worth a shot. Replaced the batteries and everything has been smooth operating since.

Congrats on your new acquisition. About the ricoh mount lens: be careful in using a ricoh mount lens on a digital body; some of the lens may have an extra pin that leads to a 'stuck lens on a body' syndrome.
