Exactly. I still have at least one still in the blister pack.

Ray, you are a true collector.

I have one in package too. I've thought about seeing what it would fetch on eBay...

AFAIK Eric doesn't monitor Pentaxforums, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for one.
You might email him and ask though...

I didn't say he did. How ever, he does have an account here.

I keep it in a safe place because of possible contamination. However, I figure it is a good piece of info kind of like the old film cartridges and boxes that people have accumulated. I have wondered about ebay myself.

The silver-oxide cell is harder to find and more expensive than the alkaline, but has more stable output and lasts longer.

Chris
Apologies, my bad. I thought they had always been 1.5.

The chances of a leak of mercury are slim, those energy-saving lightbulbs are far more dangerous.
Just don;t let the kids put the battery in their mouths

Alkaline batteries will give inconsistent metering results toward the end of life. Silver Oxide batteries have a much flatter discharge curve that more closely matches that of the original mercury cells, and they last twice as long (as the alkalines).

Mercury = 1.35V
Alkaline = 1.5V
Silver Oxide 1.55V

All are usable in SP-F due to the bridge circuit which produces a differential output and is therefore voltage independent.

IMO the silver-oxide cell is definitely worth the cost and extra effort to find.

want to be sure I understand this correctly. Youre saying that you can use either the Silver Oxide or Alkaline batteries. However using alkaline batteries causes the meter to lose accuracy in time because of the decrease in voltage. Is that correct?

Correct, I never use any camera battery that is not Silver Oxide.

The spots use a semi balanced bridge so if stuck a fresh alkaline is usable or a hearing air cell.

At end of life the alkaline won't give good readings the hearing aid cells are ventilated and can leak!

Hmm...

Maybe the light meter is weak in the camera I've got, but a fresh Weincell didn't move the needle at all, but an LR44 seems to work?

Wein Cells take some time to reach full output when exposed to air.
FWIW an inexpensive multimeter is a handy thing for any hobbyist.
