my biggest problem with going 100% film is a lack of ISO3200

with my digital, when i go out with my buddies at night, i slap on a fast lens and crank it to 3200. Nice clean photos all around.

with film? no so much
You can use Ilford Delta 3200 (pushed up to 12500) and also Fuji Neopan 1600 (pushed up to 12500) !

with Digital ? no so much

The lab I use charges the same for 24 and 36 exposure rolls, so it's all the same to me. I can always run off another 12 pictures of my dog.

1. those two are bw films
2. most shops charge extra for pushing
3. while grain is nice, you cant quite compare that to this: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/692124-post97.html

I strongly support the additional 12 pictures of your dog. There are never enough pictures of one's dog.

Cheers,

Luc

I go for the long rolls, myself. If I'm in a hurry for results, I usually end up rock'n rolling on the shutter, somwhere along the line anyway. If I want to switch films, I generally just offload if I'm in the middle and finish it later. Saves developing effort, and all.

An exception is when testing cameras. For that, I wish I had a bulk-loader to make really short rolls.

The funny thing is, I realize my total film usage is up only a smidge, as I was mostly film already. What I dropped was the grab the digital and shoot something bits... the damn camera wasn't something I like to carry around much.

I'm glad to see how many film heads there are around here!
If it wasn't for macro and sniping, I'd be there with you!

Nesster,

How much experience to you have with the Praktiflex pre-m42 lenses in the m40 mount?

I agree. But some of the nice fuji and kodak pro films are 36 only (Pan F 50, Portra, 160c, Provia)

Can you explain this a little further? Thanks in advance.

Nesster, your love for film has been obvious for as long as I have known you and your work speaks for itself.

It is interesting for sure how long it does take to shoot 24 or 36 exposers, but how easy it is to rattle them off in digital. But in truth, I can rattle off 24 or 36 shots pretty easy on one of my street walks. In fact, I always carry a spare roll...

If I had to go strictly film, I would have no problem after a little withdrawal period, but as it is, I shoot film 90% of the time now...No exaggeration, I have over 200 rolls in the fridge right now. Of course most of that came from a store that closed down and I bought the inventory of Fuji Xtra 400, Ilford xp-2, and fuji superia 200 rolls...I paid a buck for each roll of film, but I had to buy it all...There are many others as well that the guy threw in, but many are expired or will be soon..I have not seen an issue with expired film yet, so who knows. It has always been in the fridge...

As for medium format, I just finally finished my first roll of Tri-x in my 645n. It took me like 2 months to shoot the roll as I was very picky. I did not want to be dissapointed with my first dance with MF..I also sent it to a pro shop for developing and put on CD...High res scans and CD for a cost of $38.00 ..OUCH!!! will get them next week...Hope they are good. ..

But in the future, I will develop and scan my own MF stuff..Of course this means I need to buy me another scanner that does MF, so that will have to wait. My wife will have me with an apple in my mouth over a fire if I spend more money of my photography hobby and she finds out...

you buy Delta 3200 and you over expose by 2 stops, then you tell the shop to push-process your roll by 2 stops (or do it yourself)

I just bought around 300 rolls of Ultramax 400 (24 exposure in packs of four) from a local supermarket that just wanted to get rid of it. It cost me about 30c a roll. It's in the freezer now so it should satisfy all my colour film needs for a considerable time. At that price I can afford to use it and not worry about the cost of each exposure. They still have about another 100 rolls left but I think I've got enough. The expiry date is June 09 and it's been stored in an air-conditioned store which isn't ideal but the consumer films are pretty durable so they should be OK

Funny though - does anybody have a problem squeezing out 36+ digital pics? What is it with film
I know when I use film, I spend a bulk of my time just trying to get keepers. With a roll of 36, I only have 36 chances to get great shots, but with digital, I can afford to screw up a few. The pay off is, about 50% of my film shots are good enough for me, while when I shoot digital, that goes down to about 10%.
