Honeywell Relationship to Pentax

Actually, the K2 and K1000, which came out about 1975 or 1976, were both labelled Asahi Pentax. There never was a Honeywell Pentax K1000.

I think that the Honeywell corporation decided that photography did not have a sufficient return on investment to suit their tastes. The Honeywell Photographic division, based in Golden, Co., became Pentax USA. AFAIK, after that time, Honeywell had no significant interest in the operation, although they may have retained a minor stock interest, but even that is just speculation.

At the same time that the cameras stopped being branded with the Honeywell name, the operation in Colorado also stopped importing and selling the Rollie Strobonar flashes and the Nikkor stainless steel film developing equipment, neither of which were Asahi products. So, yes, I think that Honeywell really did divorce itself from Asahi pretty completely.

But then, what do I know?
