Rust lens mount on a Pentax MX

I recently bought a Pentax MX from Ebay. It looks nice except that there is some rust on the lens mount. I am wondering what would be the price to replace the lens mount? So I can negotiate with the seller to get partial refund. Thanks.

Doesn't look like it will affect the operation of the camera. Why not use a nail file to buff it off and then seal it with auto toch up paint or clear nail polish. You should seal the camera lens opening well before beginning.

Yeah, if that mount's still in alignment, you could just clean it. I'd suggest a little tape over the camera's plates, too, to protect the finish. I'd probably use a little bit of automotive sandpaper bent over something like an emery board, taking my time with something in the neighborhood of 240 grit and a little water. If you've got something to brush the loose rust off first, it'll save you time.

Personally I'd run a roll of film through, and then get it processed first. Then you'll know if anything inside is gummed up or rusted.

If the shots look good then I imagine the above tips would work.

Thanks for the replies above. Is it easy to change the lens mount? I assume a screw driver should be enough for this work, right?

A screwdriver is all that is needed. Oh and a large clear area in case a spring pops out.
You take out the six screws, and carefully lift the outer ring straight up. The lens lock tab will probably come up with the ring. Put it in the new ring and make sure the pin goes into the little spring.

PM replied to BTW.

Also, if you're going to remove the ring anyway, you can probably clean that up quite easily once it's off the camera. Just be sure to clean it well.

The mount from an MV1 (for certain) and probably the MV (and possibly other M series) fits on it as well. You could ebay one of those for cheap most likely.

But as others suggest, I'd just take it off and clean it.
