Focus screens for ME Super

I know the ME Super doesn't support interchangeable screens but can it be done ? Although the viewfinder is big and bright it's quite difficult to focus the F/1.2 especially under dark conditions...

Any options ?

Thanks !

It's not easy, but can be done. But why?
What screen would be better? The ME Super and MX had the best screens of the film cameras.

What screen would you get that would be better is the question.

The ME Supers viewfinder is one of the brightest I've seen and has the split ring to help, and finding a replacement that would be significantly better and easy to install seems pretty unlikely to me.

Assuming your screen isn't extremely dirty, I would suggest looking for a magnifier or refconfverter. It sounds like your having a problem with low light AND shallow depth of field. Screens can be changed on these but unless you have changed screens on the non-changeable by user bodies before, I suggest sending it to Eric. He probably has all of the screens for it.

magnifier sounds like a good idea and it's something Ive wanted for macro for a long time...

I am not sure if there are any better screens but there must be , I can't tell the difference in depth of field between F/1.2 and stopping down to F/2.8

I don't know of a screen that would. But if you find it, let us know. I'll cut them down and put them in my digitals.

The ME Super screen is sandwiched from the top, that means the prism must be removed first. This is not something you can diy.

For Pentax DSLRs, you may contact Pentax parts department and see if they still have the split screen for the MZ/ZX-M. It will also work with the MX (but being slightly smaller you might see the edges of the screen through the vf).
