K1000 body "ding" - defect, accident, or "feature"?

Hi,

I just acquired a K1000. and on the back of the case, right under the shutter and film speed controls, there is a "depression" that kind of feels like a thumb rest.

Image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/DannyWho/dp_k1000_back.jpg

However, I'm already the owner of a K1000, and my existing one does not have this "feature" (if it is one), nor can I find any images online of the K1000 with this "feature". I assume the ding was probably from a fall or accident, but just to confirm, were there any K1000's made with a depression like that, as it seems a perfect fit for a thumb, and it is perfectly round. Thanks much.

Yeah, looks like damage, but it may not harm anything there. The frame counter reset might be in the area, or not. If it returns to S when you open the back, it's OK.

Thanks much for the replies, I had a strong hunch it was damage, but I just wanted to rule out or in the very small possibility that was a thumb rest or something, that may have got distorted with age or use. I just shot a few blank frames, and the counter reset perfectly when I opened the back, I tried a few times, and worked OK each time.

If I wanted to sell this camera, about how much value would I expect to take off for the dent?

Also, what is the best way to clean the camera and the leather case it comes in?

Thanks much,

Dan

Saying that it's a clean camera otherwise, with a Kit lens a camera like that might go for $100 - $125.00 Canadian, in my town.
That little ding really drops the price from an otherwise clean camera.

Looking at KEH's web page it sounds like your prices are around the same.

If it was my camera I'd probably just give it to someone, whom I know would use it as a learning tool rather than sell it for those few peanuts
