The Takumar review section probably needs some tweaking as well. For example, the auto-takumar and S-M-C 85mm f1.8 are listed together when in fact they are optically different in addition to the coating. Both are special lenses and deserve separate listing.

For example, the Super Tak 50mm f1.4 came with a 2 different optical forumulae. The one released in 1964 had 8 elements in 7 groups and the second had 7 elements in 6 groups and there were 2 variations on the later one to complicate things.

There are some other examples as well.

That site's layout is very confusing, but it seems comprehensive. Likely a good start if we were to add some pages to our database here.
Perhaps it would be less daunting to break it up into the pre-Spotmatics and Spotmatics.

I recommend starting in sequential order based on release date from the AOHC site with the international designation with U.S. designation in parenthesis. It should also include variations such as Tower 26 & Tower 29. There were variations in some models as well. For example there is an "early" version and "late" version of the SV. The main reason was to allow the SV to use the Super Tak 50mm f1.4. The Super Tak 50mm f1.4 alone has 3 versions and 2 optical forumulae.

Virtually all m42 bodies came in chrome with black as an option. The ES & ES II was the exception but there are chrome ES II around that are less comon than the black version of the Spot F.

Let's not leave out earlier M42 Takumars, such as the 83mm portrait & the other pre-sets.

I searched for quite a while for either the M37 or M42 83mm. I was in the right place at the right time...very lucky really. I was surprised at how good it was compared to my other lenses. For a 50 year old lens it performs much much better than I expected.

I believe they only manufactured about 1,000 of these initially. I would venture to guess that only a fraction of these still exist, & of those, how many are in such decent shape? For future reference, my first born is packaged up & ready to be shipped out whenever you deem it feasible to give me the word. Her first hand knowledge of my LBA & affection for me have encouraged the sweet girl to make this sacrifice with nary a whimper..... I'm a lucky dad.

This lens has come up in a couple posts lately. I might be out in your neck of the wood sometime next year. If I am, and you're around, I'll bring it with me so you can try it out...

@smc: Wow -- that will be extra-sweet on the Spottie headed your way. I would love to see photos of that combo. Has it arrived yet?

One mmore Tak/Spot (& earlier) website

Adam: Here's a reference for the early Asahi cameras and Tak's, 1957-1962 (and text to 1968), plus some serial number ranges 1957 through 1968 for the bodies.

Frank Mechelhoff's Pentax Page

I only have a Spot-F and a K I wish I had that TAKUMAR 46mm lens cap). SMC and/or Blue have those covered.

It's a beautiful camera - nearly as nice as yours. I wasn't serious about the cap. I'm delighted to have the camera and the lens is sublime.

I've cleared some time Sunday for taking beauty shots to add to the Film Camera Intro thread (a K2 and near-mint M100/2.8 and M50/1.7 showed up today, also), and running a roll of Tri-X.

Indian Summer here - so probably the last chance for an outing in just a fleece.

It's nice to find a few of us with the K. I brought mine into work and passed it around to the canikon crowd.....which was a big hit. Such an old camera yet still modern.
