Today show segment on Dwayne & Kodachrome

Today Show Video Player

Sad development: The last Kodachrome film lab - American Story with Bob Dotson

Just saw this on tv, interviewing Dwayne himself and Dwayne's photo store and development lab, the last place on Earth to get your Kodachrome done.

Awesome post thanks for sharing. Today’s ADD digital generation will have no idea what they will be missing.

Ain't that the truth. Sad to see such a trusted film disappear.

Saw this myself this evening on the MSN home page.
Glad to see someone posted it because it is an interesting report on a sad day for film photography.

Last Roll

I have 2 rolls left. You know, I might just keep the last one as an American icon.

Parsons’ little photo lab may lose workers, too: Kodachrome is 20 percent of its business. But life is not a question of being dealt a good hand; it’s playing a bad hand well, over and over and over again.

“We don’t get trapped into saying, ‘Oh, something bad has happened to us. We need to give up,’ ” Grant Steinle says. “We’re always looking forward to where we need to go.”

Now that’s a lasting image.

Good advice

I'm sitting on 5 brand new rolls I got from Dewayne's. Several things motivated me to go ahead and get an FA 77. One of the key things was the ability to use the 77 on my MZ-3 to shoot kodachrome. The second key thing is that the price is about nearly double on the 77.

Concerns for archival quality are disappearing on several levels and this is certainly one of those.

I am working on roll three of the six that I got this fall from Adorama. I sort of cringe every time I realize that I have screwed up a frame, knowing that once the I have less than 150 frames left before the bitter end.

FWIW Dwayne's will continue to process Kodachrome through the end of December 2010 (at minimum).

Since I never had a chance to snap the shutter during our very short autumn I still haven't had the chance to load the one roll I bought from Chris.
I'm getting the urge to load it for some holiday shots.

I'm thinking that I should also shoot a few rolls of Velvia, and send them into Dwayne's as well.
