Pentax MZ-10/ZX-10 anyone?

Has anyone used Pentax MZ-10 camera before?
Any feedback on autofocus and metering?

Thanks.

Yes, my first pentax in fact. Small, very small and light. AF works when it works; when it doesn't have enough to work with the lens hunts from stop to stop. Typical Pentax AF in other words.

I've had no issues with the metering, apart from it won't do it with a pinhole (where a PgmPlus for example still meters).

Oh, and the kit lens they sold with the ZX-10 is perhaps the worst lens ever made by Pentax. Though there are a couple of other zooms from that era who take exception to that comment.

Mine came with the awesome F 35-80 4-5.6.

It's no wonder the low end market went to p&s zooms at the time, with crap lenses like these you got better performance from the p&s and cheaper too.

Put a small mf lens on it, or a pancake, or my favorites - the FA43 or DA70 - and it makes for a very nifty stealth cam, it's so tiny and light.

*facepalm*
Not even related to this thread, but I just bought a PZ-10 off ebay for NO REASON. Damn CBA. At least it's supposed to be mint. I'll sell it on a Finnish auction site to get something back. I have to get a hold of myself ;D

The Zx10 should be a good camera, metering was quite good
However this one can not meter with old lenses it a crippled K mount camera

If you like how this handles get a single digit camera (MZ 3 - 5 - 7 - 6/L) those have metal mounting ring and can use the old lenses

Not true - it is a full KAf2 mount and therefore compatible with all (the primary reason I bought it)

I used a ZX-10 for a while and enjoyed it, until I decided to fix a minor overlapping-frames problem, and because of my clumsiness it died on the operating table.

Fortunately it had signed an organ donor card, and its mirror motor granted new life to a ZX-M a little while later. That one is still clicking away happily.

Funny enough I have the same problem with overlapping-frames on my MZ-10 (same as ZX-10). How do you fix this issue?

Can't help you there. I broke something (I forget what now) while trying to get the camera apart to troubleshoot it. So I tore the whole thing down for parts and curiosity. Most of it ended up in a landfill. But I wouldn't be surprised if your repair turns out to be a fairly simple one for someone who actually knows what they are doing.

At one time or another, I've owned virtually every camera body in the ZX (MZ) series. Best one IMHO is the ZX-L. If you're going to own one, it's the one to grab. Very complete set of operating options, metal lens mount, and good handling with a more substantial grip. The ZX5n is very nice with it's dials, but you can't do half-step shutter speeds. The ZX-L can do it all.
