SP II, finicky mirror

I love my "new" SPII, and all the seals, etc. are in great condition. The only problem is that the mirror mechanism is finicky and easily sticks. It's not sticking to the mirror foam, but rather gets stuck on its way up. This happens as long as I am not pushing the metering button on the left of the lens mount all the way up as I press the shutter button. If I've only put it in position to engage the light meter, rather than constantly pushing it all the way up, then the mirror sticks.

The attached image shows the mirror stuck up. It doesn't stick to the foam but rather doesn't quite make it to the foam. I can get the mirror unstuck and fully up by switching the light meter off again.

This is a minor inconvenience, but I do wonder why the mirror gets stuck. Any ideas?
