Pentax *ist 35mm Film Camera

I just got a Pentax *ist 35mm Film Camera.

There is a problem.

The select dial can only be turned to the right but cannot be turned to the left.

What's wrong? all electronics look good. the problem might be purely mechanical.

mine have problem too, i mean with the dial. i can turn it easily when you need to turn it to its right..but seem very tight to go left. at the first time i handle this camera, its really tight. but after severeal attempt, i just forced it to turn left..

i knew im facing a risk, to made it really2 broken..

i had mine second handed, in mint condition. only several rollls ever run in it, before i snatch the camera. so i think this problem is a common problem with *ist.

Thank you, fearview. I did that according to your post.

I did turn it to the left with strong force.
It did not break luckily.

But now the feeling of turning right and turning left is different.
I can feel a spring inside when turning right but feel nothing when turning left.

I had the same problem. I have also forced the wheel.

I can turn to the left and to the right without problem.
