I was using my Me today and didnt remember that a blinking light indicated a low battery so I took a shot and the shutter stayed open and will not close. will it shut if I remove the batteries or will it remain open till i change the batteries ?

I would think that movign the selector dial to L or M should make the shutter close

I believe this is correct. The manual says that the shutter may remain open if the shutter is depressed in very low light or with the lense cap on.
