Or a blinged out plain-Jane K1000? You be the judge...

  1. "Gold Plating" looks like WB error due to incandescent lighting.
  2. M50/2 was not the lens originally issued with the camera (I believe the 1976 models were issued with the K55/1.8 or an upgrade to the K50/1.4). There was no K50/2 and the M's weren't made until well after the K1000 was first issued.
  3. Screw in "SoftPress" shutter button looks aftermarket
  4. Glued on leatherette patches look, . . . .
  5. Glued on AOCo. logo and made in Japan on back look, . . . .
  6. Serial #7805343 - check Ole's K1000 list for date - possibly late 70's
  7. Does seem to have the early prism engraving
You be the judge.

The true beauty of the K1000 is its simplicity. Talk about gilding the lily!

Color me skeptical. I say this as the owner of a sort of WTFK1000 myself (see avatar) - how much could I sell that for if I claimed it was "extremely rare" instead of just "fake"?

Yep and the 1976-77 K1000s would have also been sold with the K55/2. (Only available the the K1000)

Actually now that I look, nowhere in the description can I find a claim that the camera came that way from Pentax. So even if the ad was misleading, it wasn't an outright lie. And as W. C. Fields said, it's morally wrong to allow certain people to keep their money....

There are several K1000 bodies on ebay with serial numbers on the top plate starting with 75, 76 and 77, possibly the most I've seen at one time. Only 2 or 3 were probably made in japan but they were all made in the late 70s.

I think I'd need to by driving a pink Caddy convertible with a furry dash and fuzzy dice to be seen with that thing! That is the long legged Mack Daddy edition.

I was in the camera repair having them check out a lens for me and I saw the shiniest camera on the shelf behind the owner. No kidding...there was an incredibly glossy silver-gold K1000. I asked Mike (the owner) what the story was. He said that one of the other guys in the shop had simply polished off the normal powder coat mat silver finish and that was what was underneath. The next time I am in there I am going to have to grab a shot to share here!

Steve
