What's the price of a pentax LX today for you Pentax User...?

For the buying specialists here.

What do you think must be the price of a Pentax LX today?
Are you thinking: For a film camera, a LX is always too expensive??

My first thought when buying compulsively was to have pentax material for doing anything. Probably also to lose my time and compensate because I was unhappy.
I think it's compulsive buying. You lose your time, your money, your life... I'm not really proud of myself.
Some people makes the same with digital. They have money and want to buy something, point. I've even seen users locked on AUTO MODE for everything making compulsive buying. It's not my case, happily so.

Now, I found my angle of view and all these "bargains" I've made are only well too much. I keep one LX but for the second one I don't know its typical value.

I'm waiting for your thoughts.

LX is a luxury camera. It is cool as Leica for some.
But for its functionality i think $500-$800 is a little bit high price. $300-$400 is more adequate. But again it's a fetish, so you must pay for that

I wish I buy it someday....

Zebooka,

It's a cult camera but the most interesting is that It makes 98% of my photographs.
It has enough functionality, if you don't care about AF and spotmeter (You don't need to be a better light analyzer than a microship is for making great photos with film)

Do you think it's better to put my LX with the winder or not?
I guess people who want a LX have already some optics but I think it's better to put a 35mm K 2 with it for +- 550$. I think it's always hard to sell things separately. Am I wrong?
Probably I'm not used to sell often.

I'm a bit lazy probably I would sell the LX for 280$ the winder for 100$ and my 35 K 1:2 for 240$.

The LX is worth the typical 400-600 price paid for it for the following reasons:

1. Backwards-counting rewind for easy Multi-exposure
2. DOF preview
3. Weather-sealed!
4. Interchangeable Finders (FC-1 finder for the win)
5. Unrivaled low-light capability (for night shots, setting it to auto and forgetting it is the reccomended method. It meters off the film plane and always gets it right...even correcting for reciprocity failure according to some posts i've read.)

i always lust for LX. i wish i can steal it someday for 300 US dollar. But instead saving for it, i ended up collecting K bodies and M bodies. now i have K2, 2 KM, 4 MX, and an ME F. This forum really, really doesnt help. It made you lost your focus.

.

US$ 300 for me.

Have you had a scout about the marketplace here, or eBay, to get an idea of the going price?

Hard not to want one, isn't it?

@unixrevolution

You are right. But your 5th point in brackets, I'm really not sure. I don't think it will take into account the 2 or 3 stops more you need with p.ex:TRI-x or PAN F (or it's due to the change in film's reflectance/grey).
But I think It makes better than other cameras clearly.
You can make +1,+2 in Auto and it works.

@fearview

So, your advice is around 300$. Thank you, I'll try.
I understand your feeling with all these bodies. I Had 2 MX, 1 ME, 2 LX, MZ5-n, 67(+OM1,...). I've lost too much time buying things. Now I work with what I preferred.
I only need 1 LX(for all my K,M optics), 1 MZ (for the FA), the 67 and the K20D.
LX and K20D are excellent for weddings and reportages (It's comfortable to have a huge viewfinder when you keep your eyes concentrate all the day). Those bodies are perfect for my use. I found I'm clearly on the Wide Angle Side. With too much material, It's really hard not to let 1 body charged behind a window for 6 months...

Thank you for your answers.

I put my LX with winder and 35 K 2 on e-bay already, just to see if it works.
I'm impressed how cheap they go today. It's why I tried a package to be more appealing. Don't know if it will work really...Fearview will find his LX "body only" easily.

I recently traded my K10d backup camera (shelf-sitter, more like) for a used Pentax LX loaded with film to a fellow Pentax Forum user. I seriously don't think i'll be buying another 35mm in my lifetime (unless of course this LX becomes unrepairable). As for the $300+ price tag, I find it reasonable, but when I show my non-photography friends the Pentax LX (~$300) and the Minolta x-700 ($30) side by side, they always think the LX is the one that's 1/10 the price of the other. More theft-proof, I guess?

I also managed to snag a FF-1 waist level viewfinder after using my buddies RZ67. One day, I hope to have the complete collection of viewfinders, especially the FC-1 collection

It is worth that price if it is the total price for a working camera. As may have been mentioned before, any LX, no matter how well cared for, will need a seal replacement (and CLA) by the time it reaches this age. Add approximately $200 to the end price of any LX body if this service has not been done. The same is true of any MX, but for half the price.

I agree!

Mine was serviced in december 2009 for the mirror and for the shutter when I bought it 4 years ago. It is just in perfect order. I know my camera better than others do.
It's a pity that people who buy so great cameras just buy a new one because it's cheaper to buy than making CLA. That's why the market is full of bad order bodies.

When I'll have too much money instead of a Leica !-)gnark...I'll go for a nice Pentax 2000.
For fun and because LX is what I liked the best working with.

@fearview
I didn't advice you specially to buy My LX. But I wish you to find one in good shape.
Enjoy making lot's of pictures!

I bet you have enough cash value in your duplicate camera bodies to almost pay for an LX

I would say 500-800 sounds the range. Unless you find a limited addition bundled with some special lenses, in which case the price is hard to tell. Either case, you will be paying more for nostalgia than functionality.

Thanks to all of you.

My LX have a new owner for 520$: the LX, winder and the 35mm K 1:2
It seems it was a good price for a good body.

Now you have one more idea. I think unixrevolution (is it because you are a GIMP user?) is right. If you don't use them,
just take a LX and you will have the best anytime. With a 50mm 1.7, 1.4 or a nice 35mm 3.5 (even the 40 pancake was great in hyperfocus with 400iso) in a deep pocket it's small. Want to look more professional: put the winder and a Big glass...

Really It makes everything you want. But please, for you and for the next, give them a CLA. They must stay TOP cameras. I keep my second LX now...héhéhé.
