I think you have a point. Of those lenses, if I were to just use them instead of "inspecting" their physical conditions, they were mostly fine (and perhaps where Pentax QC stands). However, I think tight QC was what set the Japanese products apart in the 80/90s before they moved their manufacturing offshore. The irony is that as poorly designed and built Sigma lenses were, they were all in the same brand new condition as the Canon products that I have owned. Now I am not bashing Pentax, but "brand new" does mean something. Otherwise, they might just repackage open box or refurbished and sold as brand new (sometimes the condition of their brand new lenses made me wonder too).
