A* 135mm F1.8 up for auction on ebay
Posted By: Clinton, 07-27-2010, 06:47 AM

First, you may recognize the information in this auction, including the review text, to be plagiarized from our forums. The review text appears to be my review text.

I am not selling this lens, and I've no idea whom this seller is. Never-the-less, this is a great lens. I'm tempted to ask if I get a discount... but then again, I really don't need two copies of this lens.

Looks like the auction ends in about 4 hours. If you're thinking about this legendary glass, I'd keep a close eye on this auction.

Well, it went for a normal price. This lens, just like the A* 200/4 macro, was always being sold in the $1200-$1600 range. It's really just in the last year to year and a half that sellers in HK started asking these crazy prices for them hoping that someone would pay... and some were desperate enough to pay the crazy $2500+ asked of them... Finally people started to realize that they simply are not worth that at all and are buying them back at normal prices over the past few months.

I remember once a FA* 80-200/2.8 went for $2800 on ebay. Is is in no way what so ever worth that, but someone really wanted it at the time. Now they hardly ever go above $1600 in mint condition and about $1200 in good condition which is fair for what it is.

The lack of supply and imagined superiority of some lenses make people want to spend like crazy. That's why I am stuned when people pay more for a used made in Japan FA Limited over a new made in Vietnam FA Limited when the Vietnam version is the very same lens in every way other than where they are assembled.

People would enjoy photograph more if they actually bought lenses to use them rather than to keep them in a bag and brag about overspending on them.... unless they are only collectors and not photographers I guess....

I hope someone on the forums bought this legendary glass. The final price of $1650 is what I ended up paying for mine.
