I see that Fumfie is not an authorized Pentax K-5 dealer. Didn't Pentax use to not honor warranties if purchased from a non-authorized dealer? Has that changed?

As many before have warned, these cheap prices are usually offered by New York bait-and-switch merchants who make their profit by selling unnecessary and expensive accessories and by padding shipping and insurance charges onto the purchase.

I have no personal knowledge of the vendor mentioned in the previous post, but am suspicious that their web site lists no physical address.

Current prices of the K-5 from reputable outlets are in the $1200 to $1300 range.

I did take a look at them on reseller ratings, and they had a 8.5 rating. I have no idea where they are located. I guess one could call and listen for the New York accent.

Anyone can rate ... including their friends and employees I would recommend confirming with my friend google before purchasing there so see if anyone has been dissatisfied with the service.

Average ratings can be a dangerous metric to trust. At least read the negative reviews - one really bad one can outweigh a lot of low-info positives.

With the great increase of user-ratings of services and stores over the past few years, apparently there is quite a business these days in posting false positive reports, including many fee-for-post services. In addition to false positive reports from business owners, employees and friends, there is also the possibility of paid false reports too.

The opposite also seems to occur - businesses posting false negative reports of rivals!

It all seems to undermine the idea that we can rely on anonymous reports from customers.

Forums like this give us a chance to exchange information in a more neutral setting.

For anybody in BC...got my K-5 the other day from Broadway Camera - they matched a price from Aden Camera in Ontario for $1119. Only $40 less but 40 bucks is 40 bucks. Now I have to figure out what to do with my K-7..

The price of k5 on warehouseexpress.co.uk just dropped considerably: Now the body sells at £788.

I caved in. I just could not keep resisting - although I CANNOT afford it. Now the question is whether to put my k7 on the marketplace. I know I should... it would cover half the cost I suppose.

Anyway, warehouseexpress is a certified Pentax dealer, and I have good experiences buying from them, so here is my recommendations if anyone else needs their economy ruined!

Very nice touch: T-Dimension pays for all shipping costs in case there is a warranty repair. I never understood how others get away with foisting costs on the customer in a warranty situation.

Adorama has the K-5 body only for $1199.95 with free shipping, the same price everyone else reputable seems to have these days. But it also comes with a camera bag, 8gb sandisk extreme pro sdhc card, generic replacement battery, and an sd card wallet. I just received mine today and am pleasantly surprised by the quality of the bag. Probably wouldn't have picked it out for myself but it's much nicer than I would've expected for a free bag. It'll definitely do until I figure out exactly what I want on a more permanent basis. Charging my battery now, can't wait to start shooting!
