This isn't a steal by any means, but it seems a fair deal for this lens:

It's a great lens but that price seems really excessive.

I think a few forum members may have picked theirs up in the 2400 to 2700 range.

I have been "penalized" for making "price sensitive" comments...So moderators.....have these posters been like penalized?.....You will note I have refrained!

I don't believe there are any rules about commenting on the price of a lens outside the actual marketplace.

FWIW, I think the price is too high

Right. And, actually, I guess I'm on the wrong side of this argument: having recently bought a very clean copy for substantially less, I should now be supporting the higher valuation. It is a magnificent piece of glass and I'd decline to sell it at that price.

This is price watch. I believe price commenting is part of the gig

When I bought mine almost a year ago it ended up being about $1600 shipped. The only real deal I've seen since then was one that @dadipentak picked up As I recall, ebay on that was close to $1500 shipped. I think that was about 4 months ago?

So this one is about $500-$600 over what we paid, however, I really think we both got deals on our lenses. I think $1800-$1900 is probably fair, with a $2100 being a little over priced. Still, if you really want it, and your LBA is knocking, what's $200?

Thanks guys......So the rules are, if it's NOT in the marketplace we can make "price relative" comments, but if this item was in this forum's marketplace, you would not be commenting as you are?
Cheers, Pickles.

Correct. Basically if a forum member was selling the lens in the marketplace, you would not be allowed to post comments about his or her price (whether they be positive comments like "wow, great price for that lens!" or negative comments like "I can't believe you're asking that much!"). However, if a someone posts about a lens for sale on eBay or KEH, it's perfectly acceptable to comment and discuss the price of the lens.

I believe the price watch forum is more about tracking the prices for things, although I've also been using it to share with other forum members when I see a deal or something worth noting.

Things like this really make you realize how limited the Pentax lens pool is vs CaNikon...

My Nikkor 135/2 Ai cost a whopping $500, and the AF DC version is around $1k used. Both are easily the equal, optically, of the Pentax.

But that's scarcity for you, I guess.

I wonder how they would compare in a shootout. I've heard the pentax is quite a bit sharper wide open. *shrug*

Sharper than this?

...in any case, I doubt it's $1600 sharper.
