Pentax FA* 250-600mm Gov't surplus · 06:09 PM

The Canadian Government's surplus site (Crown Assets) has posted a FA* 250-600mm f/5.6 lens for sale. Being in the region, I went to take a look today. The lens is in great condition, a few dings on the finish (normal) but the glass is pristine. Comes with case, filters, cover, etc. It is complete. The rather cute RCMP officer who showed it to me said it was 2 years old (I can;t vouch for this). I tried the lens and the clarity was excellent. Link below. Inside the case was a Pentax Forums printout from the lens database so they could "evaluate the value".

Right next to this drool fest lens is something that is going up in the next few days: an A* 1200mm f/8.

A few caveats:
I believe you have to be a Canadian citizen to be able to buy. Not sure about that. You may want to look further into it, or lean on a Canuck buddy for this one.
There is NO SHIPPING INCLUDED. It's pick-up only, so you have to make your own arrangements.
It's closed bidding so you place your bid and hope it's the highest.

This is legit, folks. I have bought quite a few things from there, including camera gear, musical instruments, jewelry, etc.

I've shipped a few lenses (6) to and from Canada and never had to pay any tariffs or Taxes. The man that just repaired my Vivitar 120-600 lens said that lenses have been cleared for personal shipping the last few years.

Should/will be very interesting to find out wh will pick this up!

It won't be a competition from what I gathered from KEH photo ... rather an upcoming item ("In Transit") to be sold there.
I hope someone from this forum will be lucky and pick it up.

In any case, I won't be buying this lens because of the obvious high price. (acording to the bidding that went on here for the Cda Gvt Surplus item)
I've made up my mind about what I will be getting as a "super" telephoto lens, but that may take a while until the budget is in order.

My A* 1200mm is on it's way to me. Setting up shipment was complex, as I'm kinda the exporter and the importer in this case. It was also a paltry $350 to ship.

CGSurplus was able to remove the HST since there is proof it's coming over the fence. Now I'm hoping there wont be any duties assessed to me by the US.

All in all, a $30,000 lens for ~$5500, hellz ya.

It's not in in transit anymore. As far as I can tell, (and I'm pretty good at telling) it never showed up in new arrivals or lenses for sale. They guy from KEH told me that 3 weeks in the in transit section was a bad sign and that it might never show up.

Sorry to those of you whom were watching this closely. It doesn't sound like it is going to make it into any of our hands.

It's not in in transit anymore (as of 12:57 AM (GMT-06:00) Oct 15). As far as I can tell, (and I'm pretty good at telling) it never showed up in new arrivals or lenses for sale. They guy from KEH told me that 3 weeks in the in transit section was a bad sign and that it might never show up. I'm still going to keep my eyes peeled for a couple of weeks, but it doesn't look good.

My condolences to those of you whom were watching this closely. It doesn't sound like it is going to make it into any of our hands.
