Posted By: G_Money, 11-22-2011, 07:10 PM

I know Clinton's been looking for one. I think this is Ian Hobday's auction.

It is. He and I have been discussing this lens for a few weeks now. He's off the top of the price I want to pay... what to do, what to do...

That's an awful lot of scratch for an awful lot of scratches, but the glass and mechanics are reported to be top notch. Interesting that Pentax Japan did an overhaul on it. I wonder if they offer that service on other older equipment.

Listing ended by the seller, what does that mean?

Ian Hobday (the seller) and I have been talking about this lens for about a month now. We weren't quite able to arrive at a final price, so he listed it on ebay. Since then we negotiated some terms that were good for both of us and so he closed the auction so he could sell it to me.

I believe this will finish my LBA. In fact, I may need to peddle a few lenses to compensate some for these last two purchases.

This is fine since there were no bids. What really bugs me is when sellers yank an active auction because they didn't get their expected price. The classic "item is no longer available.". They should post a count of yanked auctions for the benefit of buyers.

There's an FA-300 f2.8 on the auction site right now. Are you 100% sure?

It was a buy it now anyway. The seller and I just came to some additional terms that weren't part of the auction.

Sorry, my post was off-topic here. I was just ranting about other auctions I've been burned on... Nothing wrong with pulling a buy it now or no-bid auction IMO.

Let us know how the lens is!

Sell the 1200mm F8 A lens and use a 2x converter with the 600mm F4 FA.

That's a pretty good price if you ask me- as long as you're under $7k I would say it's reasonable.

Let me know if your FA*300/2.8 is part of that thought process...

I dont think the quality will be the same. When I get to comparing it though, it's certain to make forum news.
