Thanks for posting. Great opportunity for Aussie as there would be no import taxes.

Just saw this one on fleabay too, somebody should move on it (in the closing seconds stealth style so you dont drive up the price too much), I have exactly the same one and it's a cracker! (and no its not mine)

I think I spotted it the day it listed. It made me weep a little since I just agreed to my partners nagging to travel to Vietnam next year (thus my hobby fund will take a big hit)

Vietnam is an awesome trip, make sure you go to Holong bay, if you can do a minimum 2 night on one of the Junks that goes out into the bay, Its magic!!!!

Yeh that is one of the places that was emphasized, fortunately she is a travel agent so I'm set for places to go I just have to find the money to fund it . Although the trip looks to be extending from just Vietnam to Laos and Cambodia as well. should be incredible fun!

Thats what I did, from Vietnam, then over to Cambodia for a bit of "Tomb Raiding"..

I see nobody bid on that lens, and it is relisted, same starting price, but now a 2200 bin price.

Was that Daniel asking if they would take 1700????

It was

I figured for that price I could justify upgrading - mine is a pre-DG model.

yeh I know its just sitting there tormenting me! then again I think the lens road map has calmed my bidding clicky finger until that supposed DA 550mm comes out this year, just so I can see what it has to offer! Different lenses i know but I think the mines bigger factor would make up for the portability of a 300 2.8

Haha, I immediately thought it was you , cant hurt to try, but it's more than understandable he doesn't want to let it go for less, if someone got it for 1900.00 they would be very happy.

"Mines bigger" hahaha, I personally juts LOVE Pentax Glass and would alway buy it over the Sigma even with the extra costs, If I could have stretched the budget I would have to get one of those FA*300/2.8's that was around, but when we are talking an extra 1600.00 Crikey I'm not even that Kooky. Dont worry about portability, having the 300 I personally dont think it's any more portable than a 500, once you get the big round heavy stuff, its all sort of the same.

I too was looking at the new Pentax roadmap, and saw the BIG lens, I also saw the 1.4xTC with the same Green dot, and was thinking maybe the "500??" is a combo of the Da300 and a SDM1.4xTC.

I was initially all for pentax glass right up to the moment I bought the sigma 70-200 hms macro II, This is my favourite lens! even over the 77 ltd so I have been really lusting for the sig 300 2.8 or 500 5.6. yes they are all out of my price range while I am at uni but the results that people seem to continually produce are amazing!

This would be a big disappointment if the TC +300mm was the "500" but to be honest they could get away with the old A* or FA* designs with maybe the addition of a revised SDM focus system (screw backup). heck they could skip the sdm and just weather seal it and you would have people clambering for it!

i literally cannot make up my mind on the 300. very tempting, though a zoom would suit me better. pity sigma didn't do a hsm for our mount.

HSM lenses enjoy no AF support from teleconverters, so Pentax users are actually better off with the Sigma 300 and 500mm Superteles as they both work with TC's, the canon and Nikon mounts being HSM mean only manual focus when coupled with Teleconverters. Also something that the newer Sigma 70-200/2.8 HSM for Pentax suffers from when using the matched optics Sigma APO teleconverters. I will work with a Kenko 1.5 Pz-AF converter, but there is image loss, so a tradeoff.

I can say from my own use, the screwdrive AF Sigma 300/2.8 works perfectly with the sigma 1.4x and 2x TC's (and I have also stacked them so a 840mm/6.3 AF). But, having said that, once you really get up in focal length, you start to need manual focus anyway.
