I just bought one of those (locally, used) and from my informal testing its a really great lens. Surprisingly its sharper than my Tamron 28-75 and the build quality is much higher. The silent HSM is really ... um... silent and focusing is very quick. No complaints thus far

I think its a steal at that price.

Don't be surprised, it is sharper than the Tamron 28-75. But so is the Tamron 17-50

$75 off is pretty good; that's like a 15% discount.

The Tamron 28-75 is a pretty great and sharp lens, so that's quite some praise.
