I think it is better than even the original price? I remember when I was looking at buying fast telephotos, the Tamron was 700, the 50-135 was like 900, the Sigma was 1100, and the 60-250 was 1400.

True, it's as low as I've seen it (for a new copy). FWIW, I've ordered from them a few times in the past and although I had one snag with something taking a few weeks because it "wasn't in stock", overall I've had no issues and would recommend buying from them (just keep in mind you'll have to send it back to them for warranty service as I don't think you would be eligible for service in the US). Still, it's as good (or better) of a price even compared to used copies at this point.

I've bought a few Amazon open box in the past with mixed results. No risk though as they'll take it back within 30 days for a full refund if there is an issue. $1029 is a decent price for a used copy; I sold mine for $950 a few months back which seemed like a fair price for it (I think they were around 1300 new at the time).

What sort of issues did you have with your open box items?

If I recall, it was a lens that was way out of spec (in terms of AF). Wasn't a huge surprise as I'm sure whoever bought it originally returned it for that exact reason. If, however, when they returned it they didn't specify that it was defective (in other words they just returned it), it would likely end up getting resold as an open box.

Again, no big deal, and I certainly hold no grudge towards Amazon as they took it back without any issues.

I never owned a *60-250. Why did you sell yours? Were you unhappy with IQ? It is supposed to be one of the best of Pentax's zooms.

It is one of Pentax's best zoom lenses, no doubt. No complaints about the IQ. I was even tempted to pick one up for $1199 when I saw the deal

As for why I sold it, I actually have owned and sold it several times (at least three, but I'd have to check). Off the top of my head the most recent time I sold my 60-250/4 was to (partially) fund a Nikon 70-200/2.8 for my D700. The time before that it was to fund an FA*80-200/2.8. There was at least one more 60-250 a couple years ago and I think I sold it when I decided to go with the 50-135/2.8 and 300/4 instead. Each time (except the last, obviously) I ended up buying another copy because it's really is an outstanding lens that I like a lot. It has a great range, it's not too heavy and it has outstanding IQ across the range.

Wow...that is a lot of buys and sells! Reminds me of the stock market.

Did you find each copy about the same for IQ?

I think it's fair to say I've done my share of buying and selling over the past few years

As I recall, the IQ/build/focusing was pretty consistent across all the copies. I've had multiple copies of most of the Pentax lens that I've owned and with very few exceptions, I haven't run across a case where there was much copy variation among the copies I owned.

Well, I hope you get settled someday. Unless your into the trading deal.

Thanks.

I was pretty into the trading as it allowed me to try a bunch of different lenses out. At this point I'm just trying to figure out what to keep as I ended up with three systems and quite a few lenses to go along with them
