It’s important to remember that Speed Class and UHS Speed Class are two different speed indication symbols for different devices. However, a UHS-I memory card may also indicate a Speed Class.

The info on the site tehre isn't helpfull, they don't go into any detail you need to read the documentation on the site, it's there in a PDF.

But here is sandsiks asnwer
Difference between Speed Class, UHS Speed Class, and Speed Ratings (performance) for SD/SDHC/SDXC cards

And panasonic.
Speed Class and Performance | SD Memory (Industrial Use) | Recording Media | Panasonic Global

so there is a real hardware difference, it isn't simply a speed rating.

Good deal but this is not a very fast card. Only rated 30MB/s for reads and 10MB/s for writes.
My Patriot EP does 55MB/s and 35MB/s for writes.

Of course you need a modern USB 3.0 reader to reach those speeds.

With USB 2.0 you will likely be limited to 20-25 MB/s.

As long as it keeps up with my K-5 write speed I'm very happy with this deal.

No, I didn't expect that
Just saying 30MB/s is on the low end for UHS-1.

I bought a few 32GB Patriot EP 32GB for $27.99 at Fry's recently. And one 64GB for $54.99 , all 55MB/s . Not as cheap but the extra speed really maters for video files.

Did you perform any speed test with the Patriot? From my experience, actual speed versus what is advertised are two different things.

This Sandisk card will be delivered to my home for free with no NJ sales tax and I bet you drove to Fry's and used gas along with paying CA 7.25% sales tax. BTW I use a 32GB Sandisk Ultra 15mb/s Class 4 SDHC card in my Panasonic TM700 3MOS camcorder in 1080p60 28mb/sec mode with zero problems.

why write it's an UHS-1 card and then class it as class 10?
I thinks its more of marketing and advertising scheme.
There are those who doesn't know that "UHS-1" technology exist and relying merely with class numbers (I think majority of those who use p&s fall in this category). While the other half are those who are updated in the sd card technology.

Yes, I drove, but Fry's is only a couple of miles from my work, and in my Prius that is a rather negligible amount of gas. The sales tax is higher than that though, 8.25% in Santa Clara county currently, though, but that is down 1% from a year ago.

My 4 year old Canon HG21 requires at least class 6 or it cannot record HD. When I got my first class 10 cards it required a firmware update to be able to record to them.

Most likely your older card was SD card and the class 10 is a SDHC one.
SD cards go up to 2GB and SDHC cards go from 4GB to 32GB, 64GB and up (2TB) is SDXC, they all need special support for it

Pentax also provided frimware for SDHC support and SDXC support for example.

I never heard about an update because a speed wasn't supported.

No, I was using 8 and 16GB SDHC that were class 6 .

The problem is that class 10 didn't exist back when the Canon camcorder was released.
When I put a class 10 card in there, it didn't know what speed it was and assumed it was the slowest card. Then it wouldn't let me record at 1080.
Really silly implementation. But they fixed it. Fortunately by the time I bought a class 10 card, they had already issued the fix.

FYI this was the fix :
http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/camcorders/high_definition_camcor...01e0248033964c

UHS-1 cards work fine in this camcorder with the firmware update also. But SDHC only, no SDXC.

Yeah but the class rating is bogus anyway.

My sansdisk extreme pro do 30MB/s but they are class 6, one year later they are selling the same cards with a new sticker with class 10 on it...

it seems you simply unlock new features with faster card, not that you add support for the card to be able to use it.

They were Sandisk Extreme III 30MB/s Class 6 SDHC cards not Extreme Pro . Extreme Pro are UHS-1 45MB/s and 95MB/s SDHC/SDXC cards.
