DA*60-250 $1287 at Digidirect (AUS)
Posted By: selar, 06-18-2012, 06:02 PM

PENTAX DA 60-250mm f4 ED AL LTD Lens | DigiDIRECT Australia

I went to see them, they dont keep stock, they have to order in. I asked on Monday, he said he can get by Monday. Apparently CRK is giving some sort of rebate to retailers for clearing inventory of this lens. So if you cant pick up from Digidirect, bargain hard with your local retailer.

Thank for the correction I just assumed because everything is shipped out of Hong Kong from their eBay adds.

Though the camera shops tell me CRK only place an order for the bigger ticket items when they have enough deposits on the books and they don't stock much in Australia.

Good luck with the DA*300 it's worth the wait have had mine for three years and I love it.

You might have been thinking about DDP (Discount digital Photographics) or DWI (Digital world Int.) or eGlobal Digital who are all gray importers.
eGlobaldigital.com.au even says on their front page that Monday is a public holiday in HKG so they're not trading.

There is a ebay "digidirect" but he's in the UK & sells harddrives.

@rawr. damn, hope it arrives soon. Might want to go out and shoot some wide angle , landscape or some thing like that to take your mind off it.

Thanks. I have actually been doing a batch of event type shots recently. (memo to self - must update my flickr).

While I don't have any problem with shooting less than 300mm , the reason I went for the DA* 300 was when I looked at a report on the focal length I shot the most with in the last year, it was 300mm (using my DAL 55-300). So it made sense for me to get a quality 300mm prime since that's where most of my recent shooting was at. Hopefully either CRK and digidirect will be able to pull their finger out and deliver a lens soon.

That is just such poor service If it weren't for good camera shops willing to give me a choice in Australia I would have never even looked at Pentax 5 years ago and would have missed out.

Then again when I was on holiday in Florida a few months back I didn't see even one camera shop with Pentax gear and none of the stores.

I'm a little surprised Pentax don't take product and brand promotion seriously.

I agree.

You can understand multi-month delays like those impacting new D800 buyers due to supply shortages (tsunami wipes out factory, smash-hit camera generates massive world-wide demand) but for an established product like my DA* 300 or the 60-250, I can't get my head around why there should be such a constipated local supply chain.

Unless CRK really are such hopeless and indifferent distributors of Pentax that they are prepared to just wait until they have enough firm local orders for a lens and other stuff to fill up a shipping container or two, and only then do they send a stock replenishment request off to Tokyo.

That's exactly how they operate.

I have heard the complaints about CRK for as long as I have owned my Pentax Camera but surly you would think Pentax wouldn't be so complacent about it.

Though my sister in-law was going to purchase a KR on my recommendation for my niece's 18th birthday. As always she left it until the last minuet and couldn't find one in Jacksonville Florida, so my niece ended up with a Nikon.

Then that is, alas, the opposite of just-in-time procurement.

Imagine if they ran Australia Post:

'We can only start making deliveries of letters and parcels once we fill our truck. So delivery of your letter will have to wait till we get 100,000 more letters addressed to your town. At the current rate of letter arrivals into our sorting centre we expect to fill the truck in three months, so we may be able to deliver your letter in about 3 months. Thank you for being a loyal customer'.

Sigh.
