$100 K-5 rebate at Adorama?
Posted By: K57XR, 07-04-2012, 06:24 PM

Apologies if this has been posted somewhere else...

Adorama is showing the K-5 for $799 after $100 rebate but the rebate form is for an Olympus E-5. Is there really a K-5 rebate or Adorama is confusing the E-5 for a K-5?

There isn't actual proof that FF will come out and the K-5 is not in the same class as a full frame camera. The K-30 certainly does not replace the K-5, at least I hope not. If anything like you say, it's because another mid-end DSLR will come out to take the K-5's place. And for your hopes, a FF camera and a K-5 replacement could be announced soon, who knows.

I wouldn't rule it completely out yet as we haven't found out whether it's actually a rebate for the K-5 or just another mistake. But I wouldn't hold hopes too high as it's most likely for Olympus, possibly because it could be an error on whoever edited the webpage for the K-5.

Agreed, mistake - Pentax hasn't run the physical send-in type rebates in years. They typically do direct retailer rebates which they pass on in the form of an immediate discount.

Offtopic - I much prefer these... having to deal with rebate cards and those little strip tags that I conveniently forgot the name for (UPC codes?) is a pain.

Hahaha, tell me about it! I just bought an olympus e-m5 and they have a mail in rebate for a free $169 flash (or 1 of 2 other adapters). Initially the rebate form also required they be purchased on the same order from the same retailer...which olympus quickly changed after outrage that amazon doesn't even sell the flash! nevermind that neither the E-m5 or the rebate flash are only sporadically in stock for the last 2 months. I did manage to get both, but what a pain!

I called them this morning the rep initially said there is a $100 rebate but will have to check with his buyer on why it was linked with the Olympus form. He called back two hours later after the website has been corrected and apologized for the error. Although there is a $300 rebate if a K-5 is purchased with an Epson R2880.

$899 for a brand new K-5 is still a good price though.
