Pentax-A* 135/1.8 on ebay ending soon
Posted By: jhaji, 07-17-2012, 08:34 AM

Bidding @ USD 1,000 currently-

Minty, Rare, and Superfast SMC Pentax-A* 1:1.8 135mm Lens | eBay

Hope somebody from here grabs it.

I saw a Chinon 135/1.8 offered by a South African seller there a while ago and it sold for a lot less.

Neither did I and I wasn't very convinced even after seeing the pictures. But there is mention of it in their instruction manual for the Memotron -

Chinon CEII Memotron camera manual, instruction
I couldn't find hint of it anywhere, must be stupidly rare (even rarer than the A*135 maybe

wonder if it's actually any good?

that's nuts, a new AF model would likely sell for that or less (the nikon and canon f2.0 models are about $1200)
I guess we all go crazy at times when we want some thing . I have been after this lens now for 2 years most of the time they go for $1900 -$2200 thats nuts when i see one i awalys offer $1200 and explain that you can get a new Canon132/2 for $1000 new i never had any takers , $1500 was the max price i was willing to pay , and if it went over let some one else have it..It was very kind of Dave to bid on my behalf and as he has one he can understand why i want one ,Cheers Frank

Back in the late 60's Vivitar had a 135mm F1.5 !

Vivitar Telephoto 135mm f/1.5 Professional - ever heard of it? I'm currently selling it, but nonetheless; here are some samples made with it.

It's an extremely rare lens, which was produced in a very small batch of 30 pieces (some claim 300, but it's actually unknown, how many were made) in 1967, with a preset T-mount. I bought mine in Nikon F mount (yes, it does focus to infinity), but it can also be used with practically all other mounts (Canon EF and EF-S, Sony/Minolta, Pentax, 4/3 and M4/3 ...).

This is actually on the low scale compared to what I've seen it go for.

I haven't used this lens so I can't comment on the quality but in general, yes, Pentax classics tend to be overpriced compared to similar lenses. My recent experience with Canon FD 300/2.8L which cost a bit more than half of the Pentax equivalent has convinced me of that. Both stellar lenses.

The last four Pentax copies I tracked on Fleabay went for $2,118, $2,250, $1,900, and $2,125. The buyer of this one did very well.

I'd have bought the Sony 135 F2.8 (T4.5) and a corresponding body.
