"open box" though for body and lens (wonder if box is missing anything? Wonder how "new" the items are. Also, I seriously doubt that grip is OEM.

Still tempting to me.. however I'm expecting (guessing) a similar price drop within the next 6 - 9 months in the US with a US warranty.

Am I the only one that thinks the black K-30 appeals the most? I have a navy blue K-x and love the dark blue shade.. but the shade of blue used on the K-30 looks like a fisherprice toy to me.. eughh.

It says "compatible" with the K7/5. That is usually code for its not OEM.

But the product page does mention that it is weather sealed... No non Pentax battery grips I've ever seen have ever claimed weather sealing.

Plus I seriously doubt (hope?) that an official Pentax distributor would be selling virtually counterfeit non OEM Pentax gear like that grip.

second that for the weather sealing bit. I bought one a month or so ago but that is a screaming deal.

So is that price on the battery grip less than $100 USD??
I also looked at that one it even says that it's weather sealed.
I think it looks good for an "compatible" grip.

Really? All the Chinese knockoffs that I reviewed prior to purchasing my OEM Grip claimed to be weather sealed. It was the reviewers that pointed out that that claim was false on each. Perhaps they've backed off on such claims since then?

It's still a claim they are repeating on the pentaxwebstore.sg site.

OK, I'm still confused about warranty implications if you buy from Pentax Singapore. Sorry, I admit to being a bit dense.

I have read in this thread that if you purchase the camera from Pentax Singapore and have a problem with it during the warranty period, you must send it back to Pentax Singapore. What would be the process for this? Contact the webstore?

Also, is there still an option to purchase the 2 yr extended warranty?

Forgive me if I don't understand why it works this way. Pentax should be Pentax. If I was vacationing in Singapore and decided to buy the camera while I'm there, I should have the same warranty as if I purchased it here. It's not like I would be buying from the gray market.

I'd love to save the $150 or so buy buying the 18-135 kit, but this is a bit of a hurdle I'm not sure the difference in price is worth. As I mentioned before, I could buy the camera here and purchase the 18-135 later via Pentax Singapore, but I see the price has jumped back up to U.S. levels since yesterday, so that plan doesn't seem to be a reliable one either.

When you buy an item in a specific zone from a manufacturer a portion of the money you spent goes into servicing warranty repairs. So, if you by in Singapore and try to get it repaired in the US then Pentax USA has to foot the bill out of their budget, even though the money allocated from the sale went to Pentax Singapore. This is pretty standard across many industries. I'm not saying that it would not be nice to be able to buy anywhere and have it serviced via official channels anywhere at the manufacturers cost when under warranty but that is not how it works.

It did make sense before the internet. It genuinely makes less sense every day as we move toward a truly global economy. But, it's still how they do it......
