loco,
Thanks for the commentary. Maybe best to just hang in there. They are supposed to be a reputable dealer.
Thanks. Yeah, I know they are. Just bummed to have to wait. But if patience saves me $200, I think I can wait. However, if for some reason it drags on beyond the 7-10 days, I might start getting irritable.

After seeing this deal, I kinda thought about it for a few days, then decided "what the heck" and ordered a K-30 on July 26. About 1PM CDT I received an email saying my order was "confirmed". Haven't heard anything since.

Kinda bummed after seeing loco's report of "out of stock" on the K-30s. 7-10 days - damn - I'm hoping to take it on a big trip that I leave on the 11th for. Fingers (and everything else!!) crossed!!
Good luck! Write them and see what they say. They sent me an email saying there would be a wait. Seems like you'd have heard something if that was going to be the case.

Fedex just called me. I had to send them the FCC 740 form. No big deal but PITA.
Metalmania,
In looking at the FCC 740 form, it asks for "stuff" that I have no way of knowing (at least I don't think I do) - things like "Port of Entry", "Harmonized Tariff Number", "FCC ID", etc.

How/where did you get this info?? And, is it really required? Thanks.

Fedex sent the forms and instructions where you can find the tariff number. I used 9006.51.00 as for SLR camera. For part 2, I chose box 2 (I think box 7 is OK too) and attached page 288 from the K-30 manual where it is shown the compliance with FCC rules.

I hope on Monday I can get the reply from Fedex.

Quote:

"FCC basic instructions: unless indicated that they can be left blank, please complete all boxes.

Part I
Date of entry (todays date)
You can leave the next 3 boxes blank. If you know the tariff code please indicate it in the 3rd box
The qty

Device type/ model #/name
Trade name (for example a Sony Handicam would have a trade name “sony”)
Fcc id is only required if box 1 in part II is marked
Description of the item

Full manufacturer name and address
Full name and address of consignee (your company)
Importer if the same as consignee either indicate “same as consignee” or put the full name and address of the importer.

Printed or typed name of importer or consignee
Signature
Date

Part II

Only select one box. Please note Fedex is only able to process shipments with boxes 1, 2, 3 or 7 marked. Any other box and another broker will have to clear the shipment.

**If Box 1 is selected in this part, please ensure the FCC ID is completed in Part I of the form"

It's a frickin' camera. It's absolutely ridiculous that you have to fill out this idiotic form. The camera is imported and sold here in stores all over the place. Sheesh.

I went out shooting with my new lens today. Not the sharpest thing in the bag, but will be great for hiking while some weather is in the area.

Compatable K5 Grip?

Is the $84 K5 grip listed the OEM Pentax version or aftermarket? I'd guess a cheapo aftermarket brand.....

I guess it's not possible for such a zoom to be as sharp as primes! I want it for general purpose and travelling as well

My order was made on July 26. Shipped on July 27. Left Singapore on July 28. Arrived at Sydney FedEx on July 29.

Yes, it's an after-market clone. Confirmed by penstaxwebstore.sg.

A 'type 2' clone, as identified in various threads in Pentaxforums. Not weather-sealed in the least either.

Pretty fast! I guess because your location is very close to SG.
Mine was shipped on 26th, now it is still on the way! estimate to arrive on 31st.

I wrote them too and got a quick response that indicated the same. It was worth asking.

I guess high demand drives higher price.

Anyway I think this lens looks fantastic on k-5, a perfect fit. I'm not an expert but it seems plenty sharp for a standard zoom. It's not heavy at all but the build feels so much better than the plastic DAL kit lenses.
