HST is always collected by the couriers. they also ding you with a brokerage fee which can get stupid. I will not buy myself if it can not come via post. Canada post will collect HST on larger purchases, but anything under about 60-70 seems to slide through. been a while since i had to pay it but i think they charge about $2.50 for the brokering versus as much as $50 with the couriers
That's how it works here in the US too. Never paid Customs on EMS/USPS packages but ALWAYS do on FedEx and UPS. FedEx is the worst for brokerage fees in my experience too.

But someone here has already been sent a FedEX tracking number. That means the FedEX is the courier the store chose. it's too bad!

The value for the 18-135 lens is already high to $350. No doubt HST($45) would be collected even using Canada Post, right?
Any idea to minimize the cost for the tax and the brokerage fee? Thanks!

I got a quick response from them once regarding the warranty.

"The 18-135mm WR (unboxed) comes with a 12 months warranty. We will absorb one way freight for oversea servicing or repair during warranty period.

Regards,"

Hi, it's only 2/3 price for the unboxed compared to boxed. The unboxed has the same quality and warranty with boxed.
would you like to pay more 1/3 price for only a useless BOX? for me, I won't.

But if you have to pay some exorbitant import tax or whatever, is it still a steal? I was all set to order from them, but now I'm hesitating again due to this fee.

No import tax charged in Australia for one single purchase under $1000. All my cameras and lenses are from overseas except for one lens which B&H priced over $1000 (bizarre thing is it was the only lens i found in sydney which priced lower than anywhere else) Hong Kong, Taiwan, US, Canada... You name it. I've got some import which worthed something like $990 and Australian customs didn't charge me a cent.

so yea im really happy to find out this Singapore seller now

Don't think you'd be charged for import tax if you are in the US for lens/camera stuff at this price level, at least that's what I heard and expereinced ...
