Don't think you'd be charged for import tax if you are in the US for lens/camera stuff at this price level, at least that's what I heard and expereinced ...
FYI, look at the quote below

That's how it works here in the US too. Never paid Customs on EMS/USPS packages but ALWAYS do on FedEx and UPS. FedEx is the worst for brokerage fees in my experience too.

Any experience about the tax and the brokerage fee when shipping to Canada?

I got a quick response from them once regarding the warranty.

"The 18-135mm WR (unboxed) comes with a 12 months warranty. We will absorb one way freight for oversea servicing or repair during warranty period.

Regards,"
Hi, do you know whether the unboxed version comes with the lens hood?

I can tell you that I have not had to do any customs using DHL, EMS, Japan post (transfers to USPS) and Fedex so far. Of course everything I've done has been under 500 dollars.

http://www.usitc.gov/publications/docs/tata/hts/bychapter/1210c90.pdf

Looks like there may not be any duty on that sicne it is from Singapore.

they are, i'm on the verge of pulling the trigger, shipping still comes up as free even to canada (though fedex will screw me once it gets here it will still be light years cheaper than local where 534 cdn is the cheapest
338 + fedex fees (likely about $45) is still over $100 cheaper

I doubt there are duties in the US just the fees for customs. call fedex and tell them the deal and they will give a cost

it's supposed to be included.
At least the hood is shown on the picture of the lens display on the web site.
You could ask them to confirm.

Thanks for the fee info, everyone! It sounds like a bit of a crap shoot, but I guess the price is still better, even if there is a fee.

But if you have to pay some exorbitant import tax or whatever, is it still a steal? I was all set to order from them, but now I'm hesitating again due to this fee.
We've already had one member order, go through the process with FedEx, and receive their incredibly well packed camera from Singapore with 0 import duty because SLR cameras are exempt from import duty into the US.

I will know Friday for sure, but as I said in my edit above it looks like there are no duties on lenses from Singapore.

As soon as I get it I will make a post on here about it. Then let the ordering begin! Of course at that price who knows if there will be any left?

Yes, you took the first quote out of context. In it I was answering a general question about importing high priced items and the carrier chosen. I was referring, if you go further back in the thread in question, to my import of watches and my experience that if its FedEx you pay duty and if its USPS you do not - on the same items. The member went and found the US Tax regulation that specifically excludes SLR cameras from import duty and told the FedEx person the code and gave them a detailed description of the camera and got the package the next day without any fees or duties.

Hope that clears things up.
