Yes, you took the first quote out of context. In it I was answering a general question about importing high priced items and the carrier chosen. I was referring, if you go further back in the thread in question, to my import of watches and my experience that if its FedEx you pay duty and if its USPS you do not - on the same items. The member went and found the US Tax regulation that specifically excludes SLR cameras from import duty and told the FedEx person the code and gave them a detailed description of the camera and got the package the next day without any fees or duties.

Hope that clears things up.
Thanks for the explanation. I apologize if my head has been swimming with all the information in this thread. People from different countries are chiming in with their own laws and regulations and it does become quite confusing.

In the end, I'm not sure it's worth the savings to do without the extended warranty. I called Visa and they will not double the warranty on international purchases and Pentax Singapore does not offer an extended warranty.

That's true and somewhat reassuring.

Check This out...

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-k-30/192055-k-30-ebay-already-wow-...pensive-5.html

If you read the above link a, forum member has ordered a K30 with 18-55 mm lens and they've called him from FedEx asking questions about the camera for charging tax and fees ...Since he was prepared beforehand giving them the code for the camera in the US International Trade Commission site, being asked a few questions ,they've decided that there should be no tax and fees for the camera and the lens....And he received his cam in 2 days time without paying anything...
Hope this helps...

Well, I did it! I just ordered the K-30 with unboxed 18-55 WR lens for $961 SGD. That's around $765 US. A pretty excellent deal. Plus, I had $250 I won from a photo contest recently to put towards it, so that made it $515! With PayPal fee, my total ended up being $546. That's a substantial savings over what I could get it here for and I decided it would be crazy to pay that premium just to get an extended warranty. After all, the great thing about that warranty is it's only $20, so why pay $200 for it! LOL! I can use the money I saved and put it aside in case there is a problem down the road with the camera ... of course, I won't do that, but I could.

So, now the waiting game begins! Can't wait to get the camera!

Congratulations!

But why did you in charge of PayPal fee? I didn't realize that when I made the purchase order.

Thanks! A 2.5% fee was added by PayPal for the exchange rate/currency conversion. It amounted to about $20.

I just realized my numbers don't quite add up. I actually only had $237 left of my $250 in my PayPal account, so that accounts for the numbers being off a bit. And yes, Eddie, conversion/currency cost from PayPal is 2.5%.

No extended warranty can be seen anywhere besides in the United States and rest aside, the standard 2 year warranty from Pentax Canada. For those wondering about if you can get the extended warranty for the K-30 in Singapore from BHPhotovideo or Adorama. You might want to read up on this

Extended Warranty Statement
1. The extended limited warranty is registered with PENTAX Imaging Company. It is not refundable or transferable and is only valid if received at the same time as the purchase of a new PENTAX Camera, which is covered by a PENTAX New Product One-Year Limited Warranty. This extended warranty applies only to the PENTAX Cameras distributed solely by the U.S. distributor, PENTAX Imaging Company, 633 17th Street, Suite 2600 Denver, Colorado 80202 and purchased from a PENTAX authorized dealer. Just made an order of the 18-135 WR unboxed. AUD$334 by PayPal (unfortunately the Australian bank will charge me another conversion fee, but still it's a very good price.)

it's supposed to be included.
At least the hood is shown on the picture of the lens display on the web site.
You could ask them to confirm.
I emailed them and got confirmation that the hood is included.

"The "unboxed" DA 18-135mm WR is de-bundled from a lens kit and it's brand new. It also comes with the lens hood as your attached picture.
