A* 400mm f2.8 on eBay
Posted By: G_Money, 07-29-2012, 07:08 PM

Pentax SMC Pentax-A* Green Star 400mm f/2.8 ED (IF) Lens EX+ | eBay

Bring lots of money. The listing says "perfect optics" although this picture seems to show some flaws in the coating on the front element.

Price sounds about right ... for an autofocus 400/2.8, maybe!

Actually, the the shipping cost makes sense to me--when I sold mine, it cost over $100 to ship mine from Baltimore to Utah. The price seems exorbitant, though--I bought & sold mine for about $3,500. It's an optically magnificent lens .

Off topic, but it drives me crazy that Pentax aren't making lenses like this anymore, or at least SOMETHING 300mm+.
Look at the prices even older lenses like this command, and there always seems to be a demand for them everytime they pop up.

I just shipped and insured my $6000 road bicycle for 39 bucks using UPS. The box was 52" in length alone. How does that seem reasonable? Not starting a fight or anything but shipping is the biggest scam going. If you have an account its dirt cheap. If you don't you get raped.

To which I am grateful for the extreme care that went into packaging it and shipping it.

Is it just me, or does the front element look all scratched up?

Maybe some of you can weigh in on this? After looking at the photos is reminded me of a question I had, why are there three holes on the tripod foot and only one is threaded to accept a screw??

I don't know about this one, but I've never been sorry about the one I bought. It can get very long and very good with the Pentax dedicated extenders
and unlike the FA600, the case it normally comes inis small enough to qualify as 'carry on' baggage if you happen to want to fly somewhere. It also has
more DOF than the 600 in case you want to photograph both ends of a bird at the same time at fairly close range.
