Hmm, Adorama seems to be taking the rebates off of the full msrp to calculate the prices. For example, the K-01 with 40mm XS lens is about $900 at the Pentax webstore. But it was $766 for the white kit at Adorama. The Pentax store now shows the kit for $300 off, so it's about $600. But Adorama is showing a discount of $169.05 for a final price of $596.95. I was hoping for a super duper sale price of less than $500.

Somehow I was hoping it wouldn't happen, but it did -

I've been watching the DA*55 lens, and Adorama just posted it with the new rebate.

Before the rebate offering, the lens was listed at $649.99 (up until 11:00pm August 31) - I thought that if the $75 instant rebate would apply to that price, I would probably buy it.

Now.....the lens is listed at $799.95 less the $75.00 instant rebate for a net of $724.95

That does it for me with Adorama - hopefully B&H will not do the same - will see in morning I guess.
Pentaximaging.com has it listed the same way 799.95 "on sale" for 724.95. Looks like Maximum Assured Pricing strikes again!

Looks like B&H is doing the same thing. The DA* 16-50mm lens was about $880 earlier. Now it's $1500 - $75 = $1425. Seriously???

The discounts have caused B&H lens prices to RISE!

The discounts only seem to apply to Pentax's full (unrealistic) retail prices. So B&H's lens prices with the discounts are now much more expensive than before 1 September without the discounts.

It's a strange way to increase sales!

The B&H prices are now posted- it looks like ALL the lens prices went back up to MSRP, and then the rebate was applied. Now that's what I call bullshit- sorry, Pentax. Disguising a significant price jump as a rebate period just isn't right...even if the high prices last just a few days (which I doubt they will, but it's possible that they plan on letting them drop again before the rebate period ends).

LensLast MonthThis Month "With rebate"
55mm$660$725
300mm$1130$1325
16-50mm$880$1425
50-135mm$900$1525
50-200mm$249$200
60-250mm$1250$1900
The sad thing is that all retailers basically have to follow suit, obviously the full pricing terms aren't disclosed to us. Adorama's lens prices seem to be the same as BH's right now.

At least there is still some good news: all the K-30 kits are in fact $50 cheaper, and the Q is down to $399.

Looks like the K-01 with 40mm is the most attractive offer in this series.

Or perhaps it means the K01 with 40mm has proven to be Pentax's least attractive offering!

I know that the K-01 isn't in favor for many people here, but I do love to use my K-01 at many occasions.

Yesterday I made this one, a groupshot with 521 people for the upcoming Pink Ribbon action in october. K-01 with FA31mm set at iso3200:
PSV/FCE for Pink Ribbon

I know it has it's limitations, but when thinking of a second camera it is an attractive option.

Regarding the 16-50mm, I fail to see how any product may have a price tag but, yes, also twice that price tag depending on which day of the week it is. Or maybe based on some kind of lottery.

Thank you Pentax, for this reminder to make use of what I have instead of obsessing over new gear. When I first saw the announcement I got that familiar GAS induced rush of blood to the head, and started thinking seriously that maybe now would be time for me to upgrade to a new camera and also pick up a DA* zoom. But now that the rebate turns into a substantial price increase (we've always been at war with Eastasia) I can see that this was all intended as a lesson, and I feel duly chastened.

Bad timing, though -- as soon as Photokina rolls around I'll probably forget my lesson.

This is the s**t that really pushes my limits of my brand loyalty. Canon and Nikon both have different pricing structures and schemes, but you know what they don't do? A roller coaster of pricing.

Now, I said I was done with lens purchases for the rest of the year (next purchase should be another camera), so this really doesn't affect me yet. But it is the whole concept of being jerked around that is unsettling to me. It is starting to feel like they want to create a great used market for me to sell all of my stuff...

There were quite a few 50-135's for sale in the Marketplace recently plus a couple 16-50's - I bet those who bought one of these lenses at a good price used in the past week are sure feeling lucky now!

Everything seemed to calm down the past couple months as far as emotions toward Pentax after their April 1st price gouge - now here we are back to the same again.......

Do they really think this is positive marketing?

And I wonder why they picked on primarily the DA* line this time.

Thanks for doing the legwork on the range of prices. It is sad, and embarrassing frankly for Pentax. What about the K-01 and the 40XS - that seemed like it might even be a good deal if the price genuinely came down?

Went and looked at Adorama myself:

K-01 Body Only - $546.95

K-01 + 40XS - $596.95

K-01 + 18-55 & 50-200 - $746.95
